Today I.....

I too have 17" 9 Spoke Sports on my A2, and just had a set of 18" refurbed for the TT!

Friday: tripped over and bought PXYi, an eBay FSi project car from just round the corner: couldn't resist! Absolutely no idea what the plan is. None at all: esp as I've got nearly the same car already up at the yard waiting its turn.

Yesterday was putting an engine in a 911 at a customer's house. We needed a block of wood to increase the lift on the jack. I was having a scout around all over: round the back of the garage, under leaves, twigs, household bits and bobs was a set of 17" Sport wheels from his own A2 (which has been on its peppers for ages). Bit battered and the Pirelli's are old and seem distorted. Anyway, they came home with me as part payment and I'm delighted. Always loved the look of these. Also, if the TT stays, these will look well next to its 18's of the same style.

Not sure what car they'll go on: it won't be either FSI (silver) as I think sport wheels look at their best on a darker colour. The Devon car would have looked amazing on them. I guess therefore when I track down another TDi75, I'll keep these 17's in mind. Anyway a good find, but gobsmacked how blinking heavy they are! Just bonkers.

Yes very very heavy and ultra soft. They buckle by just looking at them
Not to mention they ruin the ride unless you have ultra smooth road where you live

As Benny Hill once said "... well, I like them sir ..."
I understand tbe theory of unsprung weight etc, but I'm pretty sure a kilogram or so on each corner isn't going to make much difference to my daily drive.
It's fine as it is, and, they do look good ?

If only it was a kg on each wheel. Much more like plus 5 to 6kg

I run 17" wheels but not the original Audi fragile ones. My ones are RS4 replica dual PCD (100 and 112). I have found them very robust and have survived many pot holes without buckling. Sorry do not know their individual weight or how they compare to the Audi ones. They look almost identical to the Audis.

And all that weight will not only be included in the cars kinetic energy, but also be part of the wheels moment of inertia which one will have to "feed" at every acceleration, and then give it away to brake heat.

That's true, but if you ever had a, so called "friction" toy car, you'll know how useful kinetic energy is when your rolling along!

Today I found the mod I need most...but sadly I’m very sure it’s well beyond my abilities :(

Ha, I’ve basically been near-harassing @timmus to develop a version of this for my iPhone X!

However he doesn’t have the time he’ll need to develop this into a product unfortunately.

I have just read and re-read the post to see if I could kid myself into thinking I could do it lol...

Shame...I’d take one for an iPhone X too!

Yep, I think there would be a healthy demand for this. I would pay good money for one (somewhere around the £175 mark?), especially if it just automatically synched to the car's stereo system and you could use siri to send messages and make calls etc.

I'm being careful not to look at them and will trail the car to somewhere with a smooth bit of road.

Even so, nice to have a set here as sooner or later a car will crop up that just screams out the need for them. I've got a set of the lightweight 15's here as well, so they make for the ideal Summer / Winter pairing.
