Today I.....

Today I changed a worn button on my Chorus using @Andrew 's excellent guide. I added a comment re the slight difference for a Chorus and the photos of the radio removal tool and Torx screwdriver set I used.

It's more of aesthetics as I rarely used the radio. Does anyone know if the TP function is still supported in this age of satnav on every phone? In the past I found it irritating that the stations were slow to turn off TP - probably deliberate.

Now in need to do the recirculating button on the CC. Has anyone a decent button? Probably as rare as hen's teeth!

PS That's so called invisible tape protecting the button. That button is the one I use the most, otherwise it is left on Auto.
PS Pretty good for 18 years old

Not exactly today, but after searching few threads I suspected that the occasional squealing that Gracie had been making when starting from cold was the alternator belt and so I wondered whether the tensioner was failing. Took her into Gary (B&F Autos) to have it looked at a couple of weeks ago, along with slightly premature service and MOT. It didn’t perform to order (the noise had only been intermittent), however as precaution he changed the alternator belt, even though it was only 18 months / 10,000 miles old. Since then it hasn’t recurred so it looks as if it’s done the trick. And she’s got a fresh MOT with no advisories 🙂. We’re going to take her up to the Festival Of The Unexceptional on 30th July (not to show, it just looked like a good day out) so wanted her to be in good fettle for that… anyone else going?

If the squeal does return, check the Alternator pulley! When the clutch mechanism starts to fail it will squeal under load resulting in undercharging of your battery, ultimate failure can be shearing off of the alternator pulley, not nice.

Yes that’s exactly what I was worried about from reading other posts and why I booked her in a month ahead of when I had planned to. Gary said there was no obvious sign of an issue but that it would be the next thing to change if it did return. As other members will attest, he generally knows his A2s and doesn’t go charging for unnecessary work,

Well who would have thought that our Vellfire 3.5L Automatic is cheaper to run than Jelly(Tdi) or Smurf(FSI). We get about 20mpg on LPG @ £0.629/L, so 1/3 the price of Diesel or Super Unleaded. Neither A2 averages 60mpg, or is as comfy and quiet

Cool car, but a sad indication of the ridiculous situation.

Filled Audrey up at Tesco Seaton today at £1.87/l (cheapest fuel for miles around according to both the trackers at confused.com and petrolprices.co.uk) - and when I say filled, I mean brimming it until the stuff is damn near overflowing out of the neck, using the burp toggle! Good thing I plopped in the dosage of the millers additive first.

I got 42.9 litres in (had 40 miles of range left according to CDIS), I’d travelled 561 miles on the previous tankful and the calculated consumption was almost exactly 60mpg - which matches what CDIS said the tank average was now that I’ve applied a 12% correction factor to the consumption measurement.

This is mostly 70mph motorway cruising without much attention being paid to eco-driving and also a rear calliper sticking very slightly thanks to the handbrake mechanism on that side needing stripping and regreasing; I know that once this job is done I can then do perhaps another 5-8% better if I drop the speed slightly to 65-70 and pay more attention / don’t use cruise control.

I have a ticket if I get time to go I will be there, probably in an A2 as the pork is in bits at the moment, - I decided to dive into a full engine rebuild. Eeek.

From what I’ve seen and heard, it’s not really a Porsche kind of event, in fact even the A2 might be considered a tad edgy… but it would be nice if ours wasn’t the only one.

Afternoon all,

Today I… Received an item that I’ve been after for quite some time now:
06B63C0A-0B93-4095-A5B8-E3D12C432A41.jpeg

You know me well enough by now that it didn’t stay on my worktop for long:

Please excuse a filthy workhorse!

Another great condition rare addition to Project OEM.

Kind regards,

Tom

Filled up a couple of days ago at the newly refurbished petrol station just off the A1(M) on the way into Catterick Garrison, it's JET I think. Diesel was 186.9p per litre, not bad. Worth the 2 mile detour if anyone is driving up the A1(M).
Also they had 'renewable' diesel, whatever that is, at 223.9p per litre. I wasn't tempted.

"Renewable diesel is vegetable oil refining fuel production process, it's is a cleaner, higher quality product that stands cold and storage much better than traditional biodiesel, the benefits that renewable diesel offers to the vehicle, the motorist, and ultimately the climate are the greatest when 100% renewable diesel is used."

Hmmm today I realised that I also, as well as a slightly sticky handbrake mechanism on one caliper / wheel, I also have an issue with my front driver's side brakes sticking on very slightly - just enough to cause brake squeal when travelling straight ahead or with the wheel slightly off to the right - but not slightly off to the left, weirdly!

I'm used to stones etc. getting stuck between the disc and the backplate and causing a metallic squeal, but this sounds like brake squeal.

Should I just bite the bullet and renew all four calipers, flush out the fluid and be done with brake issues for the foreseeable? Or else anyone got any tips / ideas?
