Information Today Tom ...

Thank you kindly for the positive feedback, to use eBay parlance. :)

Hiya Keith,

Yeah, this sounds like the same issue that I've just fixed. I've been doing a lot of these recently.
The list for your A2 is growing. If I remember correctly, you're also in need of some stereo diagnostics and a Colour DIS software update. Lots of new features for you! Alas, having been away in Central Europe for a few months (playing with A2s and climbing mountains), Jessica has grounded me in the North West until she recovers from acute loneliness. As such, for a short while, my services are available only by visiting me. :)

Cheers,

Tom

Keith isn't far from me ;) Just saying...

Visited Tom again yesterday to get the tailgate latch problem sorted. Involved a very tricky trim panel removal, accomplished with great skill and no broken clips. He also sorted a small but annoying problem with the headlight/sidelight switch LED's (and demonstrated the extremely elegant way the headlight switch unit comes out - if you know the exact sequence of which bit to pull/push etc).
Another brilliant job, superb service.

Thanks again Tom.

Cheers,

Steve

Many thanks for your kind words, Steve. Great seeing you again, and glad that your A2 is back to full health. :)

Cheers,

Tom

This morning I've been visited by two A2s. @RZX arrived at 9am for me to do some diagnostics on her FSI, and at 11am @dickarthurs arrived for me to add cruise control to his FSI.
All went well. Dick also had a few parts from my Aladdin's Cave to replace broken trim pieces, etc. However, I also noticed that the engine management light had been taped over, so I restored the cluster to how it should be. RZX's engine management light had also been tampered with. The lesson here, when buying an FSI, is to always check whether the engine management light illuminates briefly when the ignition is first switched on. So many FSIs have been meddled with in this way, probably by unscrupulous garages and/or former owners who sought to dupe MOT testers and/or prospective buyers.

Cheers,

Tom

Today I got home having been away for the Easter weekend. "What's that!?", I hear you all say, "You're supposed to be in lockdown, along with the rest of us!"
My sister, who works for the NHS, was living in a shared house with 5 other people, none of whom work for the NHS. Of course, it's best if NHS workers can live on their own at the moment, as it helps to limit the spread of Covid-19 from hospitals into the wider community. So, I hired a van, moved a random collection of spare furniture into a flat 150 miles away, and then returned home, all the time making sure that I maintained my own isolation.
On the way home, I stopped outside WOM Automotive. After the installation of the TDI120, my old engine was wheeled into the corner of the WOM workshop, where it has sat for nearly 4 years! A few days ago, I asked the boys at WOM to move the engine to a pre-agreed pick-up point, such that I was able to collect it in the hire van without having any contact with them. All went smoothly, and the old engine is now on a pallet in my garage. No doubt it won't be touched for a long, long time, but it's nice to have a spare with known service history. :)

I Bet it was all made easier by the lack of traffic. We came from Lancashire to Kent yesterday and it was like driving in 1968.
I bet there are many of you asking was my journey essential, unfortunately it was as it's my father's funeral tomorrow (fortunately not Covid-19 related).
Thankfully didn't get stopped, hopefully will be the same on the return on Friday.
As it's strange times my mother said don't waste money on a limo "I'd rather go to the Crematorium in your nice car" which is A2 tdi.
Take care everyone
