This weekend I have be sourcing a selector from a 1.8t /19tdi to match the gearbox

After looking at 4 different units at a Vw breaker all together, I settled on this unit .

It’s from a mk4 golf 1.8 turbo .

Needed to break down both the original unit and the new one .

You need swop over parts.

All down now and works very well and will look OEM in the Car .

Not much to update .

Spent the last 3 weeks working on the wiring.

After all this time looking at both looms, I have decided to change the full loom in the car .

Not sure what loom to use yet Audi S3, Audi TT or seat Leon cupra R.

Use the fastest one lol

@celsisone doesn't the "car" side of the loom from the original ECU plug into the 1.8T ME7? if so you could probably get away with a couple of re-pins and coding. Save a ton of work and keep the original dash etc. I can help with the pins you need to change and coding to get CAN bus working if needed :)

Was going to do that . But the A2 seems to be the only car that connects both engine and interior loom together. See pics

First pic is the a2 loom and the second is the BAM engine loom

Ahhh, yeah sorry I'm being thick. I bet they did it like that because the ECU is inside the car on the A2 isn't it, so it was probably neater to do a single loom. It would be possible to split them apart still I think, I would assume it would just be a couple of shared ground's or something in the bundle of tape near the connectors on the A2 loom. Do the length look about right for things, will the 1.8T loom reach or will stuff need extending?

Going to have to extend the loom about 500mm .

But as I am going to fit the dash complete loom to I may just fit the complete TT dashboard too .

Okay, does the TT dash look like it will go straight in?
If you decide to keep the original dash, I'm happy to have a look at making the BAM loom work with the A2 factory setup, just give me a shout.

After some clearance issues, we have been the turbo actuator relocated forward .

Will be refitting tomorrow

The TT dash is different to most, since it acts as a sort of hub for sensor data from engine to ECU.
Mac.

Turbo refitted now and I have gained 1.5 inches clearance.

Not sure which way I mama going to go with the full dash swop to TT or just a set of 1.8t clocks

I have fitted a set of mk4 golf 1.8 turbo clocks At the moment . Theses are plug and play .

Evening Brett,

This is a great project to follow and thank you for showing us what can be done. This’ll be very low on your list of things to do but, do either the Golf or TT Clusters bring the possible addition of the automatic clock update. It’s something I’ve been playing with in Project OEM and on the bench setup.

Kind regards,

Tom

After a slow couple of weeks, I am now back on it with the car.

Engine is in the car now , drive shafts are on .
All gear selector cables are connected ,(need to lower the bracket to clear the turbo)
Clutch slave cylinder fitted. (Need to change as the bleed nipple fails the gear cable )
Had to re- route all the brake lines lower.
Heat shield on the fire wall
Relocated the ABS pump

So have fitted the front panel back on the car today and happy with the clearance.

Not going to be able to use the original fan system and think it is going to better to just use a custom alloy rad and inter cooler kit too.

But on better news the original top boost hose fits which will make the install looking OEM.
