Tyre Pressures for 17" Wheels

Another vote for Toyo Proxes from me, we are running 205/40/17 on the standard sport wheels (that are made of cream cheese)
 
Well I think if I put a thick layer of cream cheese on these Chinese ‘Event’ branded tyres i would have more grip.
I was talking to a Walkers Tyres in Darlington today. They said they used to sell these as a budget tyre but the tyre distributors got so many complaints about them that they voluntarrily offered to take all the stock back!!!!
Must have been very worried about claims.
How does this crap comply with EU / UK safety standards????
