Tyres - it never used to be this difficult!

i have just bought two tyres for an Up! from My Tyres for £91-80. The fitting garage told me that they would have charged me £130 for the same tyres. The only quibble was that My Tyres failed to inform me of delivery and I had to keep phoning the garage for advice.

I’d expect that is rare; I’ve used them over a dozen times with no issues at all, very pleased with the service
Same here. I've used them a couple of times, tyres delivered to the fitters about a mile away and fitted on the day and time booked, efficiently and carefully. The garage have obviously met an A2 before, as they lift it using a four post lift in the correct jacking locations.
Perhaps it's one of those things that depends on the area you live in?

Hi Teresa,
Can I suggest that you go online and look up blackcircles.com . You enter your reg number and they suggest tyres that would be suitable. Choose the ones you want and they will deliver them to the garage you select from their list with free fitting. I have never been disappointed nor found cheaper.
Good luck

It helps to read the opening post at least, before replying.

Problem with the likes of cam skill is you still have the ball ache of finding some one to fit them which will be circa £10 a tyre . Many won’t fit tyres they don’t supply still . Try asdatyres , it was run by tyreleader who are the biggest wholesaler of tyres

Thank you. They are the reason I'm having a nightmare unfortunately. I've tried them twice now and both times they have let me down.

Oh I see then you could try Oponeo.com they offer the same service and huge selection of fitting stations all usual tyres very cheap inc.fitting?

You could try looking at how much the tyres you want on blackcircle cost with fitting (choose which place suits), then phone up the place that suits and say you've seen some tyres you want on blackcircle can they price match (I bet they will). Ive done that in the past because I wanted the tyres fitted sooner than the date/time blackcircle could arrange.

Thanks for your support and advice on this everyone. Barney had his fab new tyres fitted yesterday at a place called STS TyrePros. Not sure of they are national, or just Norfolk, but they were great. They did the wheel tracking too (was way out) and the steering wheel wobble he had has gone too.
Mabel's will be next, and they said to pop in and they will tell me what size I need (after market alloys and I have no clue, other than not the ones that are on there as they are stretched).
Just need to get my money back from Blackcircles now, who other than telling me, they couldn't fit when originally planned, are just ignoring me (they really are dire). I've just raised a dispute with PayPal now, so hopefully they will sort it.
Thanks again
Teresa

When I had my Escort, back in the 80s., if you needed tyres, you went to a tyre place, told a grumpy bloke that you needed x amount of tyres and he sorted it out.

After my failed attempt at buying tyres for Mabel via Blackcircles, I ended up buying a set of alloys that had tyres.

A couple of weeks ago, Barney got a puncture and all are really low, so I need to get four new tyres. I went online to look and all places seemed as though you had to order. In the end, I stupidly decided to try Blackcircles again. I ordered, set fitting for a different place than I tried last time and was due to go in tomorrow to have them fitted.

I get an email this afternoon, saying ever so sorry, but the tyres haven't been delivered and can i do 13th Nov ( no, as I'm at work). I don't know why they get such good reviews - they are utterly useless.

So I've asked for my money back. Can anyone recommend a proper tyre company please?
Thank you
I fit tyres, if you are anywhere near me, I'm in County Durham on the North Yorks border

Hi all.
As we all know most A2's have a 'can of junk' in the boot Absolutely useless if sidewall is damaged. I keep an se 16" wheel as a spare in boot, I regularly look for used tyres (same brand/size as on car) with minimum 6mm tread on fleabay. I purchase one and put in shed as a just in case tyre. Most tyre bays will fit for you, just make sure any used tyre you purchase, has been pressure tested, doesn't have any sidewall damage, even tread wear and preferably no puncture repairs.
Best of luck
Steve

Just to add to that also check the date on the sidewall ie 4616 being the 46th week of year 2016. A lot of tyres look perfectly good but are very old, me personally wouldn't put a tyre on my A2 that was over 6/7 years old.

I tend to agree with this it’s funny we have always had a Toyota hilux 4x4 and the tyres always perish before wearing out as we only do about 5k in it a year if that ... bf Goodrich great tyres that will probably do 50k ...but they seem to perish in between the block tread (cracking ) before wearing out on us ..

We have a similar problem with Uniroyal Rainsports on the A2

Manufactures must have worked out a way to use cheaper compounds that don't last as well as tyres used to. Take a look at these Dunlop tyres from 1974. Was up at the Classic Car show at the weekend and came across this beauty.
