Tyres - it never used to be this difficult!

I bought a 1992 hilux with 32k from new 5 years ago that had the original Dunlop tyres on it ..?..so that was 22 years and they flew through mot ..they dont make um like they used to ..(when I was a boy )?

?

That was a long time ago. ? Absolutely they don't the b****rs! It's actually not a laughing matter because they're actually ripping us all off!

Tyres don't last as long as they once did, because tyre compound development is all about increasing grip. That means a softer outer layer (the wearing surface). We can't have the reduction in stopping distance, far superior wet grip, and generally amazing cornering ability that is now available, using a hard compound that would last for ever. Buy Ying Tong ditch finders, if that's what you want. Just think back to "the old days" cars managed half the performance we take for granted now, yet lost their grip on the road at the slightest excuse. I'd bet tyres are cheaper now, in real terms than back then, even in Norwich.
Mac.
