Hi mate

To get the proper use of a runflat tyre, you need on board pressure monitoring.
I have fitted hundreds to mini, bmw etc etc

Unless the wheel itself is designed for runflats I would avoid. Could be insurance implications. They also give a much harder ride.

I am tempted to goi down the route for my Sport as there is no spare.... retrofitting the monitoring system is not such a big deal and it can be tested by letting the tyres down a bit once a month to make sure the alarm goes off...

IIRC you are only supposed to drive 30mph on a deflated RF otherwise it will overheat the same way as a standard spavesaver wheel... but as others have stated without the sensors sometimes it may not be obvious there is an issue

Stay well clear of run flats, i have driven many BMW's and a few minis with them and they are just awful. I know that it is convenient when you have a flat tyre but for the other 99% of the time they are noisy and very uncomfortable. For the 17 inch 205/40 tyres go for Hankook V12 evo tyres if you are on a budget and go for Pirelli Pzero nero if money is not as much of a concern. Don't go for run-flats though!

Thanks guy's, i think i'll avoid that then and let the missus know as she drives 116 m sport and that has run flats!

When you go to change the tyres on the 1 series change them to normal tyres, a guy who i work with changed his 520d tyres from runflats to normal and it transformed the car completely and for the price of 2 runflats he could buy 4 normal good quality tyres!

Yeah i'll definiatly will remember to go for non-runflats as i thinks it's the tyres and its overall abilities of the missus car that puts me off. Its very direct when steering but thats about it, not what i'm used to with every day driving of my sport. But then again it's not my car!!

Managed to find some 205/45/17's now, so time to put away the 16'' winters.
