Unable to connect to ECu with either Vagcom or OBDII reader

Got an issue with my 1.4 petrol, I was previously able to connect via Vagcom and Foxwell ODBII reader to the ECU and associated modules, but of late it is not connecting at all, Vagcom connects okay physically with a green light on the connector adapter, but will not read any further, timing out on all modules likewise the Foxwell reader, partially connects, but will not read or clear DTCs or live data.

I am not sure what is causing this issue, but have tried resetting by disconnecting the battery overnight, but it did not work. Any ideas ?

Yup, tried ignition on and started & running, both the odB and Vagcom worked fine for a number of years, but now I have hit this issue.

I do get a connection once in a while, with the Kw 2000 protocol on the Foxwell scanner but not reliably, and it does not read any of the PiDs.

Reduce the latency, (Device Manager etc), for the laptop port used for VCDS to 2. This is a suggestion from Ross-Tech. Worth a try perhaps.

As it is BOTH vagcom and a hand held scanner doubt it is a latency setting. As the green led is illuminating on the lead this does imply that the OBDII socket is powered OK. I would remove the drivers lower storage compartment and then carefully check all wires / pins into the OBDII socket are fully seated and none bent.

Remember when a Bora had a misfire, the blown coil pack had also blown the fuse for the EOBD. got any horrid electrical smells under the bonnet?

If you can, check for pushed back pins in the OBD connector.
It's position makes perfect alignment, when plugging in, difficult. Bent, or pushed back pins can happen as a result.

Already said to check the OBDII port on the car!
