Undertray

Not sure if this is just 1.2TDI but rear undertray on the nearside just ahead of rear wheel and behind rear footwell fell off the other day.

Seems the nuts rust then corrosion spreads to the metal tray (poss very thin Ally).

Part number reads: Made in Switerland (hence swiss cheese effect of corrosion!) 8Z0 825 215 AL995.

Any ideas?

That part is common to all A2s and a replacement is £14.59. The 'speed nuts' that hold it in place are 27p each.

Perhaps it would be an idea to replace all the nuts, check for rot and seal as you go to prevent future problems. The lining is ally by the way. The part number for the speed nuts is N 907 088 01

Many thanks

I think I'll have to drill out the old stub bolts as they've corroded/snapped off!

Would stainless M8 be OK?

Now you're asking!

I'm unsure of how the original studs are fixed to the chassis. If, as I think, they are self-tappers, then you may find it tricky to put M8 stainless studs in their place, and if you do manage it, obviously, the speed nuts are going to be surplus to requirements.

Cheers,

Mike
