[Used Van] - Advice

Hi all,

I would like your advice on purchasing a used van from the UK and importing it to Cyprus. Here are a couple of bullet points:

1. Something along the lines of a combo/doblo/etc. not transit/daily style.
2. Are crew cab vans (i.e., with seats the back) always registered as N1 vehicles?
3. There are basically only 3 makes PSA, Ford and VAG, correct?
4. It has got to be a EURO 6 vehicle so I don't get a penalty in the road tax. New law in place.
5. Sub 6k price tag.

Any thoughts or views on the subject are greatly appreciated.

Morning Evros. We are a diverse bunch on here so you just might attract response from someone who is knowledgeable on this subject. It's a long shot though. Suggest you Google your specific subject and seek out a specialist in van exports.

Hi,

I am mostly looking for every day use reviews, servicing and things like that or even a consensus on what a small business owner should get. Also what category do crew cab vans fall into; M1 or N1.

I've already read up a lot on the subject in other fora, sites, etc.

Regards,
Evros

Sub 6k for a euro 6 is going to a hard find. A 'later 2016 onwards vehicle is Euro 6 compliant. In London the Ulez is planned to expand London wide and there is a lot of people stuck with this situation and looking for a Ulez complaint van/car and they are hard to come by especially cheaply.

My Brother was forced to pay 13k for a 2018 plate Peugeot Boxer van with 85k miles recently.

No experience, but just thought of a fourth manufacturer of vans in that size - Renault (the Kangoo range).
And as you mentioned in your opening post, the Vauxhall/Opel/Fiat offering, prior to the merger with PSA.

I had a VW Caddy for many years, 1.9tdi with the electric pack and a/c which i would have thought in Cyprus would be a mandatory requirement and i loved it.

Not sure on the Euro 6 but i would highly recommend one ?

Have you thought about an EV van! I recently read that EV vans have a 20% (max £8k) grant, so this may the used prices affordable.

This page https://www.lv.com/car-insurance/guide-to-electric-car-grants lists EV vans (scroll down). I took as an example the Renault Kangoo ZE and did a google for used ones. I found this 19,000 mile 2014 for £5,995 + VAT but as you are exporting I believe you would not pay the vat or can get it refunded.

For an island like Cyprus (149 mi long and 62 mi wide) an EV should be fine :)

None of the 1.9 TDI will be Euro 6. I think you're talking 2015 ish for that. I doubt you would pick up a Euro 6 Caddy for €6k

Yes, i believe my 1.9 was euro 4 from memory (it's been a while) but was so reliable with plenty of power too.

They certainly do hold their value very well so it would definitely be a high mileage one and would indeed require a little bartering or possibly something that maybe needs a little work to possibly come under budget but again, they are really nice vans that drive more like a car, in fact just like a golf ?

Think the switch over to euro 6 was 2014 annoying as I have a 2013 car which is identical to the 2014 plate but it’s euro 5 must be a way to reclassify it...

September 2015. I remember it as my Octavia VRS diesel was registered that month. It was Euro 6 and I expected it to have an Adblue tank but it didn't. Some motors were euro 6 spec before then but the legislation applied to new registrations from 09/15 on 65 plates.

Thank you all for your kind responses.

Euro 5b is the lowest I can go for an added 50 EUR penalty and sub-60k miles is what I am trying to find. I get a lot of results even with aircon on autotrader. Caddy's are indeed more expensive because of the nice interior probably.

I like the electric idea, never thought of it but it could be a solid one.

I think Euro 6 for £6k is a stretch... our 1.9 VW is a Euro 4, 2011 2.0tdi Caddy is Euro 5 but has a E4 green sticker...

Ev I would think would be work a serious look, especially with all that sunshine/solar potential in Cyprus.
