VAG-COM: Can this be right?

I asked similar questions about items for similar prices a while back....

Seems the kit at this price tends to be pirated. I think the club, in this instance as mine, can be in dodgy ground when linking to it, and possibly being seen to draw attention to such things...

I may be wrong.

Yes, you're looking at a minimum price of £258 for the genuine article .... In life, you get what you pay for ....

Do they ever come up second hand?

I've never seen one being offered on here, and its not an eBay search I've seen on the spotted forum either. John is correct too from his earlier posting - The club cannot be seen to endorse potentially counterfeit software.
Over the years there has been much debate which concludes that only the genuine VCDS is the one to have. As I'm not handy with spanners its not something I'd ever consider investing in, but we have an established network of members with the equipment, and more importantly know what its telling you when the codes come up. There's usually someone close enough to hand who can assist with a scan for a fraction of the cost from a garage or franchised dealer.

GENDAN is the genuine article with excellent back up with free updates and the fact that they rarely if ever are offered for sale really should be pointing you in the right direction.

Yep another thumbs up for Gendan - I bought one of their cables, to work with VCDS lite, and have had absolutely no trouble at all with it. From what I recall you get instructions on how to install the correct drivers - and they were understandable!!

The current cable, which is for latest VAG cars, has the protection built, so cant be pirated. The older cable, was just a dumb cable and all the protection was in the software that could be easily hacked. I but the genuine one from Ilexa for £250 or so, and its been a god send, plus i can use it on my 2013 A4.
