VAG-Com Needed Near Heathrow

Hi all,
Just a quick question, is there anyone down near Heathrow or London that has a copy of VAG-Com, and would be willing to do a couple of things via the software for me? I bought what was advertised as used genuine software and genuine cable on Facebook, however, after it not working, Ross-tech have confirmed for me that it is not genuine.
Thanks,

Adam

Try and reload the software from the Ross tech site after removing the installed copy...…….....Did you try to update the software with the lead you've bought connected......…….if so it may well have bricked it......
Worth a try if you're in the stuck and need to sort something quickly.
Which version are you using..

Thanks for the thought, but the cable is non genuine too, so I would need a new cable as well as the software.

I’ve never owned a genuine cable. My cable is a simple K-line one, no CAN functions. I have paid Ross Tech for a full VCDS license but it’s on a laptop whose battery has since died so I only ever use it it for the stuff you can’t do with VCDS Lite (which I have on a laptop with a good battery).
In my experience communication issues are due to one or more of: 1) using the wrong FTDI VCP drivers for the laptop operating system,
2) not configuring the serial port number for the USB serial port in Device Manager to be one of the ones that VCDS uses,
3) not having the latency timer set to a low enough number in the USB serial port advanced settings.
I’m in St Albans which is 30 mins away if that’s any good. You’re welcome to pop over but hopefully someone nearer can help out, though would love it if you could advise on my sticky OSS.

If the cable wasn't connected it won't of had an update and should still work with the correct version of the software ….lots of the Chinafake leads work with the correct software downloaded as back up from Rosstech……..did your software come on a cd or have you just downloaded it from the Rosstech site........the latest software will possibly not work with your lead hence finding the correct version and replacing what you already got........
Also DO NOT have your laptop connected to any form of internet connection when installing the lead for the first time...its too easy to click "update"

Suggest uninstall VCDS Lite and the driver.

Download VCDS Lite from here:

Driver from here :
http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=CH340

Install VCDS Lite.

Install driver

Restart

Only now, plug in your cable, should pick up the right driver.

Good luck.

Edit: Once you have it working, you can register your copy of VCDS Lite, with Rosstech, for about £75 (depends on $ exchange rate). That gives you full functionality, on as many pre 2005/06 cars, as you want.

Mac.

Thanks all for your help, I've tried and tried again with vcds, but nothing will work, it's all been re installed about 5 times now, including drivers. So I've got someone who can do me a scan and a service reminder reset for me thankfully.
Thanks again

You can reset the service reminder yourself, the instructions are in the owners handbook. Goes without saying only reset it if the car has been serviced correctly.

Or watch Mr Broons' video, hot off the press, that did not sound right, maybe from the hot camera? ?

I only have free version of vcds-lite if that's any help? not registered it yet as money spent on other gremlins. Can have a poke at your laptop too to see to get it up and running.

I have now reset the service reminder, thanks to all the help, and I have someone scanning my car tonight, although now I know who has vcds around here, I know who to ask in future.
Thanks again
