Variable = SLX, non variable = ?

My TDI used to be on variable servicing every 32000miles. But not that I drive a lot less (I don't drive to work and back 100 miles a day anymore) it has gone back to a 10000mile interval service. Thus at the last service my local Audi independent said he put normal oil in... Is this correct? What do I top it up with now? Can long-life SLX mix with normal oil? And what is the normal oil I need to get?

There is a good explaination in the A2 Owners Manual (pages 174 and 175 in my Dec 2000 edition)
Your garage is correct and you can use VW 505.01 spec oil which should be changed at one year or 10,000 miles. SLX Long Life 2 can be mixed with the lower spec oil for topping up.
SLX Long Life oils have been superseded by Castrol Edge oils - check the Castrol or Halfords web sites for details.
