VW CD Changer into my A2?!

Hi all, be great to see if anyone has come across this before. I know the tech is old and CDs are not really a thing anymore but my better half has a massive collection of CDs and I only have the Audi tape system (plus cd emulator/aux) in my A2 (no aftermarket units for me please!). I was wondering whether it be possible to use my radio (same pictures below) to drive either of the changers also pictured below? I would anticipate removing the cubby at the bottom of the console and fitting it in there (above the ash tray)

Thoughts? Anyone done this?

Hmm, not certain about this to be honest. I DO however have a proper Audi CD changer if you're interested, just need to check if it works okay.

A very interesting question...I've had these in Golf's and Lupo,s over the years but I, m not sure if the CD player would fit in the cubby hole above the ash tray. Perhaps one for Timmus regarding compatibility.

A lot will depend on can bus compatibility. Not sure what standard the pictured changers are. Should not your car already have the single cd concert 2 unit fitted if it is a 2004 car? The rear of the concert 2 has a socket to drive a changer but as to compatibility with others in VW group? The A2 was fitted with an optional changer in the boot but that required a different boot trim panel. Your cd emulator/aux device could possible be directly replaced with a lead to a changer but the can issue has got me confused on your car.

I purchased the A2 about 4 months ago with a horrendous aftermarket unit so that just had to go (I love to OEM plus everything). The current Audi tape unit in there came out of an Audi A4 B6 and I dremeled the edges to fit the centre console hence the unit in that age car. In theory it should just plug and play (one unit to another) but unsure which generation of changer would work? I had considered a complete retrofit but don’t want to run cable to boot and get all the different boot trim. Plus this would be quite cool to have up-front

If you can not find a changer to work you could always go "stock" and fit a concert 2 single cd and still have your emulator connected to that.

Now that is a great call....but I got the tape one as it was £5 and NONE of the coating has come off ANY of the buttons :D (little joys)

That’s a very valid point. Part of me just wants to just see what is technically possible. As it seems to be a unique question, I might have to bite the bullet and buy one and see what happens

There is a £15.90 currently concert cd radio for an A3 on ebay, no code but easy to get and like the unit you have fitted will need dremel on the edges.

You could try one our resident car recyclers to see if they have anything available. The best person for electrics by far is @timmus. Why not seek his advise on what will work.

A little research tells me it probably won't work. This thread - https://a2-freun.de/forum/forums/topic/3598-cd-wechsler/ - has some part numbers including audi-original 6-disc changers for the glovebox or centre console.

Wow, that does actually look absolutely awesome! In my quest for v-dub changers, I stupidly overlooked a traditional mounted Audi glove-box version. That would work straight off the bat and give me a chance to mock up a mounting plate.....

So.....I actually managed to get one for free off a friend so I’m going to see what the result is tomorrow when I have some light!

If the wiring is long enough why not put it in the glove box. Or if you if you have climate control modify that to fit the cubby location and mount the changer where the climate was.

A great shout there audifan but it’s surprisingly narrow looking. Think it’s off to the scrap yard this weekend for some grey plastic followed by some dremelling :D
