VW Polo help!?

Hi I know this is not about an A2 although I do own one. my sister has a 52 Plate Polo which she bought from an Autosave garage. the engine fault light came on and she took it to them and they said it was 'nothing' and reset it. It has come on again. The car has 3 mnths warranty left with autosave. Do you think they are trying to fob her off until the warranty expires? Does the light come on for no reason as the guy suggested? Sorry for posting on here about this but I'm a bit pushed for time and any help would be great so that I can advise my sister. Thank you!

PS it has no service history and 56k miles on clock. I have told her to think about getting the cam belt changed. Should she get water pump and hydraulic tensioner done at same time?
 
Lights very rarely come on for no reason - even rarer do they get extinguished and then come on again.

She should ask to see the scan results and take it from there.

Yes to the last part too - it is false economy to leave those parts out.

Thanks, I've emailed her to let her know. I feel better now about telling her to grab them by the balls and get them to deliver a decent service!
