Warning Beep

Anyone else find that it cuts through you and pierces your very soul when that beep hits? Like finger nails on a blackboard, or a dentist's drill...

You mileage between those beeps may vary. I have an FSI... :)

I'm not a fan of the volume of the beep though it doesn't annoy me enough to reduce it. It does make me think about putting fuel in sooner though knowing there's upwards of 50 miles left means I put up with the noise until it's convenient. There is a thread regarding noise attenuation somewhere, I may look into it when I get round to fitting DIS.

Simple answer is a piece of looming tape stuck over the beeper in the instrument cluster
I have two pieces of tape on my recently fitted dis cluster
I put them on whilst coding the cluster and changing the dis screen in the workshop as the beeping was giving me a head ache
I forgot to remove when the cluster was fitted into the car but the first time it went off for low fuel it was a lot less stressful. Still audible but without letting every car in the area know about the warning
The tape will stay in place

When I first got the car and it first beeped at me I got such a shock. I saw an image of what looked to me like an exploding engine so I pulled over immediately and got the manual out to check what the symbol meant. It was the first car that I had ever had that had a windscreen washer fluid indicator on it.

Do you have the sport model with dis? It could be the rest indicator, usually beeps and displays flashing 2:00 i think 2 hours? of driving. Warning you to have a rest.
Please correct time if i am wrong.

In the early days of A2OC, this used to be referred to as the Klaxon of Death. It's so unnecessarily loud. You might only need fuel, but you deserve to be frightened to death. About a decade ago, I removed the cluster from my car, wrapped a bit of fabric tape around the sounder unit, and then reassembled it. It now does its job without making my tinnitus worse!

Cheers,

Tom

Maybe it's a setting but although mine give the flashing 2-hour warning, they don't beep for that.

You know what, I currently drive 5 different A2s, not all mine but each on a regular basis and over the months I have noticed that the klaxon of death sounds different in each car, well, not different but differing volumes, not a lot but I can notice it.

Oh, I've had the 2:00h of driving beeps, I've had the just about to run out of washer fluid but I'm not quite sure repeat beeps. Until I get the oil pipe and dipstick fixed I get the low oil warning as it leaks it way out.

Said beeps always seem to occur when I've hit that bit of driving you're relaxed and wouldn't commit to memory until the damn thing shouts at me.

I wouldn't change it or muffle it though. I've gone all Pavlovian on it now and upon hearing it get my wallet out :D

So where is this horrendous fear inducing noise producing item located? Can it be reached with the dash in place to place loom tape over? Even the swedes in their Volvo and Saab’s don’t get so excited over low Washer fluid or similarly mundane issues.... and they’re known for their 5star ncap ratings and safety first approach.
Any advice welcomed as the washer one is infuriating! Thanks folks.

You will need to remove the inst cluster
Look at The back and you will see a black round component about 10mm diameter and about 10mm tall with a small hole in then top
This is what you need to muffle
