Warning Light on Speedo - Amber tap symbol???

Typical - while I am away from home, wife sends text message complaining that warning lamp on speedo is showing (in the shape of a tap).

Any ideas what this is and how serious the fault is?

Thanks

I had that, it was a Lambard sensor fault, just under £300 to fix with a new part (including fitting). But of course it could be almost anything!

restart the engine, see if it's still there. Then get someone with VAG-COM to read the error.

Thanks, unfortunately switching off the engine does not reset this warning light. As the car is approaching 100K miles, I suspect it is time to replace the NOX/Lambda sensor which shouldn't be a big job - right?

I'll have a look at the receipt and get back to you...

It sounds timely, (mine needed changing and the car hasn't done 40k yet!)
It wasn't a big job, apparently the part is like a spark plug with a lead attached, they need to remove the old one from the exhaust unit and insert the new... easy enough if you know what you're looking for, have the correct socket set and can get under the car.

Lambda Sensor - Part No 91991825N

The price I quoted was a bit on the high side, in fact it was £240:
£45 diagnostics
£110 sensor
£50 labour
£35 vat

Thanks again. Was the above prices from a main Audi delearship (which one)? Also I am assuming this is the front or pre-cat sensor and not the post-cat sensor?

Cheers

Lambda Sensor - Part No 91991825N

On reflection, the part number provided does not look like an Audi part number.

Not sure if it helps but there is some info on fitting a NOX sensor on a 1.6 fsi in this thread - http://www.a2oc.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6898&

According to the very useful and informative link provided by Spike, the NOX Lambda sensor part number is P A8Z0 906 261. Did your garage fit an Audi part, an OEM part or a BOSCH part?

<edit> Just got off the phone with Stoke Audi, it appears that the above Audi part number is for a 1.6. Giving them my Chassis number for my 1.4 SE resulted in a new part number PA8Z0906265J being shown on their computer.

Thanks

Update

OK so my VAGCOM arrives and I managed to get it to work with my laptop after a couple of false starts. Turns out to be a speed sensor error

16885 - Vehicle Speed Sensor: Implausible Signal

P0501 - 35-00 - -

I have cleared the error code and the engine warning light went out. Took the car round the block and the warning light has not come back, fingers crossed.

Any idea what this error code really means. Time to replace the speed sensor? What is it and where is it?

Thanks
