warning lights after going over bridge

hey all,

I recently went over a bridge that wasn't clearly marked and nearly caught some air.
when the car came back down ( did not bottom out ) my ABS and ASR lights came on the dash :(

they don't always appear but often do and I know this is an MOT fail.

any ideas what's causing it? and/or a fix?

thanks in advance

If putting it on an ODB reader and cancelling hopefully transient issues doesn't work, the obvious answer will be to get it scanned using VCDS and pass on the error codes so that someone more mechanically adept than I am can assist. Best of luck!

Without a scan, best guess would be a faulty yaw rate or acceleration sensor

Cheers Spike

I suspect that the asr & abs has detected a differing wheel speed as the car hit the bridge/ caught air caused by one wheel leaving the ground momentarily normally accompanied by the yellow triangle ! Flashing , clears straight away once normal conditions return.

thank's guys, anyone know of any of our members in Leicester that can scan for me?

unfortunately now even at normal driving conditions the warning lights come up with the beeps and stay till the vehicle is turned off :(

do any of you know if any of our members live in Leicester that can scan for me?

thanks in advance

Sounds like the ABS/brake pad sensor cables could have been damaged going over that bridge.
I had a similar warning lights issue for around a year, it started happening at the same location every day on the commute home, it stopped happening over the winter but started again in spring but worse - the warning lights coming on every time I started to drive over 10mph. I could sometimes restart the engine and if the ABS/traction control lights did not stay on I could drive it for the rest of the commute without them coming back on again. I recently had the ABS/brake pad sensor wiring replaced back to where there was no corroded wire and that fixed the worst of it. The more intermittent fault, happening at the same spot was fixed by replacing the ESP sensor unit after detecting the error code:-
1 Fault Found:
00493 - ESP-Sensor Unit (G419)
014 - Defective - Intermittent
by running a VCDS Light scan

Long thread about this here :- https://www.a2oc.net/community/inde...-00493-abs-esp-sensor-unit-g419-faulty.36765/

It might be worth trying the car after you've parked and switched off for a while ....the abs will then self check and if it doesn't see a permanent fault return to its normal working state....... you may have to drive a short distance so that it senses the wheel hub rotation.
