Water in boot - one fix

I had a water leak in the right side of my boot and especially so when the car was parked. At first I thought it was my gf's golf shoes, then I found the water and thought it was her leaking water bottle from her bag but it was only there after rainfall... I ripped the interior and cleaned the floor mat with microbe detergent to get rid of the smell.

To fix the problem I had to remove the rear bumper. To do that I had to jack the car, remove the right rear wheel. Then take all screws and plastic rivets out from the plastic cover in the wheel house. (Plastic rivets was part nr 4D0807300 and break easily - use a dandelion remover). The black plastic cover in front of the crome decor (between the boots hatch and the bumper) was taken out by plying with a flat screw driver (see picture). The 8 upper screws holding the bumper could now easily be removed. There are also many screws from under the car but they are easy to find/remove. Keep something to put the rear bumber on since you swing it out without removing the left part (in the wheel house as this is the toughest part). Be gentle and make sure the paint doesn't crack.

You'll find the leak by pouring water including a lot of soap/detergent.

The water from the roof and the boots door goes down to the hole in the black plastic cover, next to the rear light. When the bumper is away you'll see it lands directly on the ventilation outlet. The water then follow the outlet around through the rounded corners and just where the outlet gets horizontal the water falls (see the dirt in the picture). Right under that is two holes drilled in the body for letting cables out. Check those sealings! Mine was completely gone and had to be replaced with a 16,5 mm body plug. In my opinion this has to be the worst place to make holes in the body as more than a quarter of the rain fallen on the car goes over there. That wear the rubber sealing so I expect many cars have this problem, or will have...

I wouldn't say this is complicated but you must have patience and time to deal with the metal screws that might be stuck in the nut/clip since you have to be careful not to break the plastic between. Go away for a coffee break if you get angry and come back and it's a breeze. Specially if you put some "tri-flow" (best out there) or similar lubricant in the joint.

Good luck on the sealing of yours.
