Water Leak

Currently trying to sort out a few problems with my FSI, on lifting the carpet in the passenger footwell to access a sensor noticed the underside of the carpet is soaked through:eek:.....anyone any ideas as to the possible causes. Thanks.

Hello and welcome,

Sorry to see that you first post is to resolve a fault, but we'll see if we can't sort it out.

My main suspicion would lie with the windscreen. See if you can trace the route of the damp, probably up to the bottom corner of the screen. You may have to remove the carpet completely to see what's happening over time, but this isn't too big a job, only requiring the glovebox to be removed.

Cheers,

Mike

Thanks for the VERY quick response, was starting to get a bit disheartened with the car after only having it a few months, despite being over the moon with a TDI 75 we have had for years!!

But hey I suppose I should sort these little niggles out before condemning the thing:(

Right removed the carpet, however having problems with removing the glovebox, it appears as though I have removed all of the screws......do I need to remove any of the door sill trims or is it just extremely tight and tricky to remove the glovebox?

There appears to be damp staining on the pillar trim so I am guessing the windscreen seal is to blame....will check what the seal looks like compared to the other A2 tonight.

There are 5 screws to remove the glovebox: 3 along the top inside (1 hidden under the ribbed coin holder), 1 underneath near your feet and 1 hidden behind the trim panel that runs along the top of the door sill, so you need to remove this first. It is held in place by 3 clips and needs a sharp tug upwards to get out.

Cheers,

Mike

To remove the door cill trim it helps to curl back the carpet, pull out the door seal and also first remove the smaller section of trim roughly level with the dash on the door pillar.
