That seems very high for 6th gear, I would have expected closer to 2300 ish. My 6 speed A2 did just over 2000 in 6th.Ok guys... at the weekend I drove from Luton to Leeds..
70 MPH IN 6TH GEAR DOES 3,100 RPM GPS COMFIRMED..
Seconded, 3200rpm by eye.Yes that doesn't drop it down much, i think i see something around 3,200 on mine give or take guessing 50 rpms.
I'd like to see a 6 speed gearbox bring the revs to around 2,800 @ 70mph as a good compromise.
Not if you have a proboost ECU fitted!Seconded, 3200rpm by eye.
Interesting 2,800rpm, as that would induce stratiified mode for economy?

Andy has a good point. Lower revs don't necessarily equate to higher mpg. It's a bit more complicated than that. The OEM ratios are not chosen at random. The plethora of ratios in, what appears, at first sight, to be very similar car/engine combinations, show that getting the best ratios for each combo is a major part of design and development. The idea that you can take a box (and set of ratios) intended for one car/engine combo, pop it into a totally different combo, and achieve better economy than the OEM ratios did, seems a little naive/optimistic, to me,Seconded, 3200rpm by eye.

TLDR version: If it would fit physically and electronically, it would already have been done. It doesn't, so it hasn't.
longer explanation: The A2 generation is one of the last where the mating of engine to the rest of the car is still relatively small, which is why the 1.8T from the Ibiza / Polo GTI is used. An AVY is a drop-in. A 1.0 TSI is a completely different generation of electronics and it's a completely different ballgame. From my understanding, too, the space under the bonnet is actually also too small - the small turbo units build too high and so they don't physically fit. There's no 1.4 TSIs, but quite a few 1.8T conversions and at least one 1.9TDI.
