Webasto compatability?

Howdy folks

As we know our webastos are thermo top C models. These have been fitted to a variety of premium motors. Due to extremely high cost of parts I wondered if it's possible to fit one from another vehicle manufacturer.

Cheers

Thermotop z c all really similar, they just have to have an audi flashed control board.
This allows audi ecu etc to control and talk to it.

Many of the wabastos are the same just some have the exhaust and a circulating pump attached. Can be removed etc they're like a meccano kit.

They key is the control board. I found a specialist who repairs them, they called me to say they didn't have right audi compatible software so had to flash it to bmw mend the board, test it, then flash it back.

See my post above! My conclusion is inconclusive, and to be completely honest I am more mystified than ever!!
I have bought A8, BMW and Range Rover L322 and can for them on the floor with a CAN controller, but fitting them to the A2 somehow kills them ……🤔🤔

That’s interesting,

To be sure yes, or check the wiring diagram of the vehicle it came from.
The communication from the ECU isn’t communication really. If pin 3 is connected to ground, it turns on. That’s it.
That pin is supposed to be used for the outside air temperature sensor, so it has been repurposed by Audi

Is pin always to make it fire, or Just Audi? Later rover units were pin 3 but negative feed to start. It seems webasto don’t want anything to be easy!🤔😀

I know it’s Audi, maybe others too. Pin 5 is shown as switch input in some diagrams, and some BMW’s connect pin 3 and 5, so the rover thing doesn’t surprise me :D

But with an Audi unit:

6 pin connector
- Pin 2 - Diagnostic
- Pin 3 - Ground to fire
- Pin 6 - Dosing pump

2 pin connector
- Pin 1 - 12 volt
- Pin 2 - Ground

You need to bother with diagnostics if you’re testing outside the car
