Webasto electrical connector

Help!

I’m trying to refit the Webasto electrical connections on my TDi75 but the six pin plug won’t seat properly!

I can see the catches at either side and got it off okay but just don’t seem to be able to push it down hard enough to latch!

Does anyone know if I need to push something in to get it to go down all the way?

Do not personally know the Webasto plug, but plugs normally have a sealing rubber washer inside them. Check this is located correctly as this will prevent the plug fully inserting.

Also check you are fitting the plug the correct way round. most plugs are designed to only fit one way. I assume this is the plug you are talking about.

That’s the one, yup.

It has a little rubber accordion to seal it and two tabs on each side for catching. It can only go in one way up luckily.

The side catches just seem to be the normal ‘get it over the top of the angle’ type but I cannot get it to catch. It seems to go down all the way but I can still just pull it off without pushing in the side tabs... weird!

Are the locking fingers intact? Try slightly bending the tabs to provide a more positive lock.

A squirt of WD40 round that seal in the bottom of the connector can also help

Cheers Spike

Pushed it as hard as I could. No positive click or lock. It seems to be low enough to be fully engaged but nothing decisive.

Connected it all back up and bled it etc. Started and... nothing. No fuel pump and no air fan.

Checked fuse 14 in the box and it seems okay.

Tried VCDS and no response from controllers 7d or 18

Either it’s a dead one, the connector isn’t on properly, or something I’ve missed is screwy!

Any ideas? What do people normally see on VCDS with a Webasto? Is there another fuse?

Connector could be "handed" so chance it may be on the wrong way round. Sorry do not have Webasto to confirm.

It’s ALIVE!

I unbolted everything so I could get into the connectors again but managed to leave all the plumbing in place.

A good dousing in contact cleaner and pushing them in and out a few times and ‘whirrrrr’ and lovely gout of diesel exhaust!

Yassss!

While I was in the area I fixed the exhaust undertray mounting bolt, replaced the brake disk and pads and greased up the calliper nicely to celebrate. Whoop!

Hi Chris.

My suspicion that it was the connector was the lack of ANY activity. A good listen can be very helpful.

If you start the engine (and it’s cold enough) the Webasto should start the air intake fan with a whirr- taking the intake muffler of and covering the hole with fingers can check there is good air flow.

Then the rear driver side wheel arch should start ticking quietly as the fuel pump starts.

I had none of this so it was either no power or no signals.
