hi there !
I've found this a2.
Its a 2002 model, 1.6 fsi,
208000 kilometers
real s-line (sport version in france with lower car, 17" alloy wheel and other minor changes) ?
black
read leather sports seats
17" alloy wheels
dead opensky
check engine lights but the car runs fine.
the timing belt was already done this year.
the equivalent of the mot in france is ok.
the seller is asking 1700 euros.
What do you think about it ?

Hey there, In case the two previous comments weren’t clear, it doesn’t seem to be very well maintained - signs are the home-made fixes to the headliner and the drivers seat and a slightly scruffy looking exterior.

These ‘fixes’ are not a good sign considering something far more serious being the engine management light being on. Just because it seems to drive fine, does not mean there is something seriously wrong currently going on.

The 1.6 FSI is known as the most ‘troublesome’ of the engines available, so if you are set on that engine, you really must look for a well serviced and well cared for example.

Finally - the real European S-Line cars had a black headliner installed, which this one doesn’t, so yet another sign the seller does not seem very trustworthy.

In Summary : it’s probably best to forget about this car and look for a better example . You may have to spend more money for the initial purchase, but you will save money, time, worry and hassle in the long run.

Best of luck,

Stuart

The S-line was actually offered in two versions, S-line and S-line Plus. Only the Plus had a black headliner.
This car might well be a true S-line car without having a black headliner.

It does look very unloved. I'd not go further without seeing a full scan. Engine light could be many things, most of which will not be cheap to fix. I love FSIs, but some head over heart is required.
Mac.

Some other pics :
The price drop every day.
Started at 2600 euros one week ago and now its price is 1500 euros
Maybe if i wait I will get it for free :D

It is a mess !
It is very difficult to find a good car not speaking about price but availability.

Hi There !!
I have found a new car :
1st hand !
107000km
1.6 fsi 110
06/2003
Audi service til 2016
Opensky fully functional
Timing belt changed in 22/06/2011 at 65488 km
Injectors changed in 27/01/2016
Price : 6800 euros
The price is a bit high as it needs a new timing belt and maybe a full service to be sure.

Looks to be a nice car, but seems very expensive. I have no idea on French prices. In Spain that car would be probably cost between 5-6k and if it was in Germany - less than that again.

Our UK friends will laugh that the above prices, as the UK cars will be much cheaper again.

Maybe call and negotiate that they include the service and bring the price down?

Cheers,

Stuart

I'd still want to see a full scan, with no engine related DTCs, to pay asking price.
Should there be engine related faults, post them on here for advice before doing anything.
Mac.

Great advice here from Mac. If a private seller I’d also casually ask “What kind of fuel do you use?” If they don’t say Ron 99 / Premium / V-power I’d be concerned ( this is key to keeping the FSI engine happy).

Seems it 98 octane, sur "La Manche"
Shell V-Power SP98 (E5) .

in France it is ron 98.
I have a question about the timing belt.
When exactly does it have to be changed on the 1.6 fsi 110 ?
Many thanks

I think the general concensus is every 5 years, regardless of mileage, to be on the safe side.

I'd always understood it was 5 years or 60000 miles / 100000kms, whichever comes first - this doesn't disagree with Dave's understanding, but it is more cautious where the car does higher annual mileage.
