What can I look at to improve economy as it seems to be low?

Update:

Car has been running on 15" pepper pots with 185/60 quadraxers for a month now and it is a massive improvement in both comfort and economy. Managed 88.9 (DIS)on a 30 mile run the other day at a satnav confirmed constant 55mph on the m4 and then a 5 mile up valley to finish. Tank full dis mpg up around the 60's whereas it was down around 40's

Good news. Smaller, thinner wheels definitely help the mpg figure in all driving conditions, though I find that on the motorway, holding a constant speed, only a small penalty is paid for running 17" wheels. Their additional mass is noticed much more in terms of economy when driving at hugely variable speeds, as physics would suggest. The ride does suffer, though!

Cheers,

Tom
