Can anyone recommend an alternative to the VW Audi gearbox oil? on the last change i used just a normal comma 80w/90 oil but it was bad and the box went all baulky and difficult so i used the Audi stuff. BUT... the Audi stuff sneakily has no specifications on the bottle. I think is is some grade of synthetic oil which is also multigrade.

Millers do some nice oils, but I have to ask, why are you changing it on a (seemingly) regular basis - there;s no need, unless the levels drop, or every 100k miles as a minimum!

Cheers,

Mike

From bitter experience on previous Audi's, I'd recommend you stick with the genuine VAG gearbox oil. Although not on my A2, I tried other full synthetics which claimed all sorts of wonderful things but none gave the same gearchange quality as the Audi stuff

There is no service interval - effectively, the gearbox os considered filled for life.

However, levels should be checked every 2 years and topped up as needed. If topping up is required however, investigation for leaks should then take place, as a gearbox won't use oil in normal operation.
