What is this??

Hi, was having a look under the bonnet this morning and noticed lots of bits of insulation foam dropped around the engine and then saw where it came from. Anyone able to explain what has been removed from the picture? Obviously there was foam there but not sure how much or why it’s been removed?

Is the fresh air intake split or broken?

Air intake insulation appears to have been removed using teeth. Squirrels nesting nearby?

Assume that’s the big intake pipe next to it? If so then no it looks fine.

Ha ha I am sure there are but doubt they would have gone for it! However I have no idea how long it’s been like that as only the second time I have looked under the bonnet...
