Hi Everyone.

Well my dad has broken his arm so I am staying with him for a week to help him.
I thought I would paint my brake drums as its nice and got a bit of time on my hands.
My question is what paint do you use? I was thinking hammerite?

Thanks in advance.

SMOOTHrite not Hammerite.... Just to be pedantic...:D

Unless of course you like that "beaten, industrial, 1970's lab equipment" look that Hammerite gives you.... Hee Hee

Thankyou for your advice.

Went to halfords on the way back from hospital.

I got hammerite smooth, The only dilema was the colour.

Barbie Pink.... or dayglo yellow.....

But went for the black in the end:D

The first coat is on I will do the second in half an hour.

I was thinking leaving it over night before putting wheel back on and doing the other side?

Or should I leave it 2 days before doing the other side?

Cheers

David

When i painted mine i only painted the bit you see not the bit that the wheel sits up against as you may have problems when you come to remove the wheels if not cured properly ;)

Drums

I painted mine after my refurb of the brakes and cylinders a few weeks ago after my handbrake failed (i did a full write up on this if you do a search).

I also used the hamerite spray on paint (hammered finish metalic black not the smooth) but not before knocking off all the old rust with a ball pane hammer and a strong wire brush (8 yrs of rust!!!), it was a warm day so i gave it three coats full drum (obviously not the inside) and left it to dry for a couple of hours in the sun. i then reasembled and put the wheels back on and have had no problems since, the spray paint drys very quickly a lot quicker than the paint on stuff and is recoatable in 20 mins.
I recenlly changed a wheel and the paint did not stick.:)
