Wheels are driving me round in cicles!!

What am I to do!

I have been looking at some replica RS4 style alloys for the A2, I have read the threads on here a number of times but do wo have an agreement on the wheels and if they rub or cause other problems

The set in question are 17" 7.5J ET35. My car at the moment is sat on the
16" SE Spec 6 spoke alloys (sorry don't know the 'J' or the offset).

My question is, will the new alloys fit with 205/40 17 rubber? Would they even go with 215/40 17 rubber (I'm guessing not??)

The reason I ask is because I intend to buy the alloys soon, but the local Costco here is selling Michelin tyres at the moment with 20% off and a further £50 off if you buy a full set. They are working out good, so might aswell make the deal. That also includes fitting, balancing, new valves etc aswell.

Can anyone help? I know I can expect a drop of 3mm inner clearance and a 9mm outer position extension.

Its really the tyres - ? Which would be okay and which not... thanks all! :D

I have the same replicas that you are considering fitted to my sport and so far have had no issues with rubbing at all. I am running 205/40 17 tyres even though the tyre fitter initially stated they would not fit!!!

The only downside is they make the already firm ride even firmer and there is no protection from curbs at all!!!!

I am running 7.5J 17 wheels (gen. Audi TT) with 215/40 tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1) with no problems (I've removed the wheels to check).

Bear in mind that my offsets are ET32 which gives the same inner clearance as the standard 17" wheel and tyre combo.

Cheers,

Mike

So guys, do you reckon 215/40 17 will go without rubbing inside, on the replicas with ET35?

The benefit for Mike is that as he said his offset leaves him with the same initial inner clearance, where as with the replicas this is reduced by 3mm.

I know the Toyo Proxes T1S offer good rim protection so I may opt for these, if I can work out if the 215's will rub or not :)
