I'm interested to know from people who are using the variable service interval. When buying the car from new is it really the case that the first time the oil is changed could be as high as 30k miles? What ever happened to the 1st service cars used to have at about 3k miles? This I always believed was a good idea, to flush out any swarf that occurs in normal bedding-in. I know manufacturing tolerances have improved over the years, but are Audi really saying there is no bedding-in what so ever? Has anyone chosen to ignore the Audi recommendations and done an oil change themselves at 3k miles?

Mine has just had its first change at 23,500 miles. The days of swarf from bedding in are no more. Audi are no different to most manufacturers now and very few advise an early oil change. I know people with new Fords, Jaguars, smarts, Mercedes and Toyotas and none have had an early oil change.

The warranty on mine is about to run out in 1 or 2 weeks (3 year). Should i be having a 2nd service or will that be next year?

I guess it depends whether you're on a fixed service interval or variable service interval? What's yor mileage? I think even the fixed service intervals are mileage based and not age based.

Just had my first service (variable 1.4TDi) at 31500miles, the dash said 9000 miles to next service as I left the dealers and 1000 miles later now says 26500 miles to next service.

Service due on my TDi 90 was 9,600 on delivery. This gradually creeped up over the first few weeks. Now the mileage is 3,500 and next service is due in 28,000 miles.

Our 1.4 Petrol was serviced at 13500 on VSE, around 21 months old, but on petrol cars it seems t come round sooner. May be something to do with the high milage drivers getting diesels.

Will see how the new one goes since her run to work has less stop-start miles now.

I've had my tdi 75 for a year now and its covered 22,200 miles (17,000 by me) and the service indicator tells me another 8,800 to go today - so it looks like 30k is achievable for the first oil change. It has been topped up twice in the year but hopefully will get to the end without needing any more! Most of my miles are m-ways or A-roads and I drive it very carefully most of the time. Just had to change out the front tyres for the first time this week so I reckon 22k on the first set is pretty good as well.
