Where do I find out exactly when my car was made? Also what is this CAN-bus thing needed to have cruise control retro fitted? Apparently this was only fitted to A2s after 08/01. I bought mine 10/01... so it may have been made before 08/01...

CAN-bus is a simple network, utilised to allow communication between different devices via only 2 wires instead of the usual loom. On CAN-bus equipped cars, the stereo, climate control, engine diagnostics and many other items are all connected to the bus. There is no overall master control unit - each device can act as a master when information is required.

Best way to find out for sure if you're equipped with this would probably be to go to an Audi dealer and let them have a look.

A2's don't make very good sledges:(

Johann I have a book at work that can break down what all the letters mean in a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).

Will dig it out and let you know

@Johann: If you have the Symphony II unit, then you also have CAN-Wiring....
The Radio communicates with the DIS over CAN-Bus...

Frido: that makes sense, when I ordered my car I was going to order the 6CD changer in the boot... but when I got to Audi they said the Symphony had just been launched as the 2001 upgrade... so a front loading 6 CD and the rear one not needed... so my car is one of the first CAN-bus cars!!!!!

Yihay! So I can do the cruise control... BUT Martyn of VAG told me that the multi function steering wheel needs not just the wheel, but also a new airbag!! So £200 plus VAT for the wheel and £360 plus VAT for the airbag is a bit much for steering controls! [29]

Thanks Lee: I discovered the sticker next to the battery in the boot and saw my car was built 09/01... thus also a Virgo as myself and the reason for us getting on swell! :D
