Which coolant temperature sensor?

Hi, yes, after searching and reading some threads, it seems that the reason why my FSI won't start, only while the engine is at normal temperature, maybe because of the coolant temperature sensors, right? Well I read on another thread that the sensor with four wires feeds the Temperature Gage and would just like it confirmed what does the other sensor do?

I think the 4 wire temp sensor is dual output and sends signals to the engine ECU as well as the temp gauge
