White Instrument Cluster Dial Group Purchase

I was thinking of grey that was OEM from Audi:

I’m open to all options to be honest. What I want is just something a little different (latest font style) with the A2OC logo somewhere displayed. Don’t know why but it’s just an itch I want to scratch.

White would be a my preferred option but I will go with the majority, if that turns out to be a grey colour then that’s what will be ordered.

Are you registering interest?

Kind regards,

Tom

Initial design thoughts?

Design 1.jpg

If members were interested in a black dial kit this is my proposed design, with Admin Team clearance first of course.. Simple and subtle which I think is perfect for our aluminium friends.

Its probably a pricey upgrade which isn't needed, much like the rear cup holder and 2 space floor boxes I already have.

Kind regards,

Tom

I’m not sure what it would gain by having black dials as they may not look that different from normal. A silver or white would probably be the preferred option.

Totally agree Steve,

I just don’t have a black lined drawing of the A2OC logo.

Hopefully I get the go ahead and obtain the Vector files to play with. Much preferring the above design in white with black text and logos.

I guess you’d be after a few for you new found love of FSIs. The ECU upgrade is certainly making me think of getting another FSI as the wife only does a short commute and doesn’t warrant the use of the A6 TDI.

Kind regards,

Tom

I would be up for white dials again.
The only problem I had with mine was at dusk the numbers weren’t that bright. But perfectly usable.
As I say please add me to the list.

I’ll add you in for a white dial kit Steve. Can you confirm engine please so I can keep tally of what engine type has been shown interest.

Kind regards,

Tom

Tom add me in for a 1.4Tdi AMF.
How about going modern with mixed black n white per image?

Evening Rob,

1x white dial kit for your TDI AMF will be added to the list.

Quite interested in your proposal as well. That would be in keeping with the OEM colouring along with the additional outer edge in white to keep us custom hungry members happy.

Kind regards,

Tom

Evening all,

I’ve been in touch with the Admin Team and they are happy to allow me to continue with the group buy of the Custom White Dial Kits.

We will unfortunately not be able to have the A2OC logo displayed on them but I don’t see this as a negative point at all, it would have been a nice addition though.

If you look back at post #27 you’ll see @Jellybean proposal of going totally different than my original thoughts by having something OEM looking with a custom outer edge. It certainly gets my vote and think it would look very nice.

I will get some design options together and speak to both Lockwoods and K-Tec to see what they can come up with along with costs and a timeline for delivery.

In the meantime please do show your interest along with any ideas you have. I am by no way a technical drawer or expert at coming up with designs. The more input you contribute the better the final design will be.

Kind regards,

Tom

If we are to have a design that is black and white (as in the example picture). Please can we make sure that the kph are as small as is legally possible. The mph should be the obvious one and the kph “toned down” so as to be there (for legal reasons) but much smaller than the mph, please.

Duly noted Steve,

This will certainly be taken into consideration. My gut feeling though is that the majority might just prefer the white dials you had in The Project. I’ll ensure everyone’s points are taken on and passed on to both companies to see what is possible.

Kind regards,

Tom

I'd like the outer ring that is around the speedometer/rev-counter dials to be bright chrome finish and not mat aluminium. Oh, also the temperature and fuel gauges, of course. I'd like you to let me know how I can do this, please?

Evening David,

Is this you after a second custom dial kit. Would you be kind enough to show us all the dial kit you have fitted. Preferably a daylight picture along with a picture showing the illumination in the dark.

I’m not sure I’d personally like chrome rings around around the dials which will be sat underneath the aluminium rings on the facia. Might just be too much but that my own opinion.

I’ll add it to the list of desirables if you’re after being added to the list though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,
I wasn't aware that there was such a kit? Oh, do you mean the backing plate? Maybe you've misunderstood what I'd like to achieve? Looking at the cluster there are aluminium outer rings around all four gauges. They protrude forwards and are in a dull aluminium finish. I'd like them to be in a bright chrome finish. That's what I'm hoping to achieve. I hope that I've made this clearer, now.

It’s clear now David and makes sense.

I’ve not done such a thing to any car yet but have seen plenty of chrome trim used on people various projects. I’m sure you’ll find something low profile and flexible enough from the 2 usual places of purchase.

If you have a micrometer you could measure the thickness of the aluminium outer rings to ensure you purchase a guage which will cover what you’re trying to hide. Not convinced it will look as beautiful as you want as the join will be difficult to hide.

Maybe see what someone like @depronman can machine for you with some stainless steel which could be polished up. That is probably going to give you best results but wouldn’t know the costs involved.

Lastly you could try out the chrome paints, with a steady hand you should be able to get the finish you’re after. I’ve not used chrome paint before so I wouldn’t be able to advise which product is best.

If I was looking to do something like this I would first approach Paul to get his thoughts on what is possible as he does seem to be our ‘local’ metal smith.

Kind regards,

Tom

Thank you for your input, Tom. I turned up some chrome finish spray paint, recently. I could give that a try. Otherwise that u-shaped chrome edge trim might work. I'm sure that I could get the join to be almost imperceptible. We'll see .....

Good luck and don’t forget pictures once finished.

I know this will be an upgrade some members will like, there of course will be some that don’t, but I think it might just pull together all the little chrome parts that are available from other VAG Marques, for instance the chrome ring around the auto headlight switch, the mirror adjust knob and the window switches that some have fitted.

I’m thinking of the chrome window switches myself as my drivers side passenger window switch isn’t 100% reliable. It just never ends does it!

Kind regards,

Tom

My door openers are very high finish chrome steel. They are standard Audi parts and look superb!
