Welcome. I see your A2 is year 2002 so you have the steel wishbones that are hollow. Later models have cast iron wishbones. The steel ones are prone to rusting from the inside and often this is first noticed when a hole appears. I think this is far more likely than rubbing. At this point it is very dangerous to drive the A2 as a sudden collapse of the suspension has occurred at least once (luckily at slow speed). A slow drive to the nearest garage avoiding pot holes may be OK (at your risk).
Many with the steel wishbones have fitted the cast iron ones although they have a disadvantage in the ball joint is integral and cannot be separately replaced should they wear.
There is a very long thread below. Read the beginning and then skip to the end to read about availability as finding replacements is getting harder (as with many A2 specific components).
Here are some photographs of the offside front lower suspension arm of my '03 reg 1.4Tdi A2 - after it collapsed while I was driving it, fortunately at low speed (as I was on a single-track country road, with passing places, and had just braked to let a car come from the other direction). Had this happened at (say) motorway speeds the outcome could have been quite different, as the wheel actually moved back in the wheel-arch and was rubbing against the mudflap, making a loud graunching noise - it could have jammed at a higher speed and caused the car to spin ? This car passed it's MOT the...
