I had the fan type washer jets on my 2001 TDi and found them pretty useless. The fine spray was easily blown off course at speed or by strong side winds and they always needed a very long blast to get all the screen wet despite playing with the very limited adjustment. I retrofitted the later jet spray type and find their performance, although not perfect, significantly better.
As the A2 bonnet is not hinged but has to be lifted off I suspect positioning and spray angle of the jets is rather compromised (unlike most cars where they are on the bonnet)
