Hello all, I'm new here having taken the plunge and purchased a 1.4 TDI Sport; so please be nice to me

My front tyres need replacing and I am wondering why it’s fitted with “W” rated tyres? Now I’ve tried, but I cant quite squeeze 158MPH out of her!

I'm not convinced thet the Dunlop SP Sport 7000 205/40ZR17 84W tyres that I curently have fitted are necessary

Your thoughts please... What are you running on your standard A2 Sport 17’s?

Strictly speaking, as the law of this country only permits speeds up to 70mph, there is no need to fit anything more than a basic 'N' rated tyre.

However, if you were to travel to Germany, then as the car could (theoretically) reach about 120mph, you should always have at least 'T' or'U' rated tyes on the car.

It's always good to have a margin there for safety too!

Cheers,

Mike

Don't forget that 'Z' rated tyres for example have stronger side walls than those with lower grades, 'H' etc.

Stronger side walls will help with cornering at speed... yes the ride however will be a bit firmer... personally I have 'Z' rating but that because that's all I can seem to get in my tyre choice Dunlop SP9000 ZR... but I would consider 'W', 'V' at a push, but not 'H'
