window won't go back up - help!

Hi guys

I've had an issue with the window [passenger side] not winding up fully when using either switch.
Mr Sheen in the runners had sorted this, and for years it's been fine.

Needless to say Mr Sheen has now let me down.
The window is fully retracted and won't even wind up.
I think the motor is OK, as 30 mins before giving up, we were still playing the 'up and down' game.

I've had to leave it down tonight, and will have a look at it tomorrow.

Any clues what to look for...??
IF I have to get any parts, what would I be likely to need...
It's an 02 Tdi SE.

Any advice for taking the door trim off, as I don't want to b****r it up.

TIA

Had the same problem. Finally sorted by disconnecting the battery. Leave for 10 mins and reconnect. I believe my problem is with the CCCU. Your problem may be different but worth a shot.

You should also be able to close the windows by turning and holding the key in the drivers door in the lock position till it fully closes.

As Neil says it could be the common convenience unit, but these usually show other symptoms as well.

Here's a 'How to' for drivers door trim removal, which also reflects the passenger door.

Thanks fellas...

I did try the remote, but that was no dice... forgot to try the 'key in lock'.

Thanks Sarg for the door card removal link, I've got a feeling I'll be needing this!

for info, there is a guy on the German forum who repairs KSGs (CCU to you guys). I can provide contact details if you want - but no guarantees. I'd be very interested if someone has a broken CCU and wants it repaired and can test the final result...

OK

I've had the card off, and removed the motor, and managed to get the window glass back up again.
I noticed the 'siemens' box of tricks attached to the motor had a 2004 date... even though ours is 2002... It had been into the dealers 3 times to have the window sorted out.

When moving the glass back up by hand... sans motor it is very stiff.

I friend has said he thinks it's the winder mech at fault??

Can this be bought separately or is it part of the aluminium door sheet??

Any thoughts, prices, part numbers please.

Thanks again for everyones help.

Electric Window Problem

Hi,

Not quite the same problem however, a couple of times, my passenger side front window stopped half way down and then refused to move either way again. My 'fix' is to disconnect the Comfort Control Unit (under passenger side front footwell) - re-connect and the window functions properly

Worth a try for your problem?

Regards,

Dan

Will try this.

But it feels like something physical is stopping the window moving properly [something inside the door.]

strange, because there ain't much there.
Take the doorcard and the alu panel off and see. You'll need TX30 and a crosshead, maybe a long knife to do the seal for the lower part of the door.
