Wow! What a difference a few weeks makes (mpg)

Ive recently joined the A2 ownership with a 1.4 TDi 75hp.
As an R&D aviation engineer Im finding all the remap / aerodynamics mods interesting.
Great to find I have a car with a thriving 'hot rod' underworld in its midst.

My weekly driving is slow to medium over about 20 miles a day with some higher speed 80mile trips at w/e so my 3 questions are:

Q: Is there a remap that will improve torque 'bandwidth' and improve mpg at the same time ?
Q: Opinions on, Remap plug n play V ECU repogram remap
Q: Are there any known down sides of remapping ?

cheers
Jon

Generally the forum aims for an 'OEM+' approach ... i.e., improving on what Audi did, but making it as 'Audi' as possible.

You are quite close to Stealth Racing (Southam, about 20 minutes due north of Banbury). They seem to do most of the remaps & other work for the cars on the forum (they are 2 hours north for me, just had the service & MOT done, together with a load of other small things. If you follow the first link in my signature you will see them working on my gearbox).

1) Yes, but you need to be realistic about the MPG saving - a few % if you are careful and don't put your foot down!

2) You need to have a proper custom remapping done with a rolling road. Mail-order 'chips' aren't tuned to the car. On the A2 it can be done via the OBD-II port, on some other models it is not possible and instead you need the chip to be removed so that it can be programmed ... but in both cases, the key thing is, is it a custom map tuned for your specific car, or is it a generic map?

3) a) Increased torque will put extra strain on the clutch. However, as long as you are sensible that should not be a problem.
b) You need to declare it on your insurance. I insure my car via Adrian Flux, you will also find another modified car broker being mentioned on the forum (I forget their name, but it is a good idea to get several quotes of course).
