Your A2 plans for 2021?

My little A2 project is only just coming to "done" I hope. I got the car in late October and after various other jobs big and small Im halfway through replacing the rear coolant hose and thermostat housing. These were "iffy" before I changed the cambelt as I noticed some coolant staining during the MOT (I used the opportunity to have a good look under the car), I think the engine movement during the cambelt swap pushed it over the edge.

Once thats done I intend to use the A2 as my local miles car for the very short runs I do to School and weekly shop rather than use my Discovery. If we head back to the office later in the year ill also use it for my "station parking" car in fact I might need trickle charger for the Disco as its going to end up doing nothing but towing and load hauling at this rate (oh and bad weather)

My A2 plans for 2021 are:

...to speed up my project "Letty", my first real A2 project. Letty is an A2 2003 AMF that I bought when she had passed 200'km now she has more than 400'km. AC and servo is well gone... The idea is to simplify and reduce the total weight with 100kg and improve reliability and improve balance of the car. So main focus is to reduce weight on front axle.
  • 42 L tank is sourced but need to be collected and fitted
  • Manual steering rack is trail fitted and load tested both push and pull
  • Make new front calipers Magnesium/Aluminium alloy. Drawings are completed and material is sourced so just to start milling
  • Alternator bracket. I have tried to source this bracket with no success so far... even tried "Wanted" here on the Forum...
  • Make 60mm Stainless Steel downpipe . All parts sourced and awaiting engine installation and TIG welding
  • Make 60mm Stainless Steel exhaust rear part with quick change flanges. Hopefully ... one can gain a couple ponies too ?
  • MYP 6 speed gearbox is awaiting installation
  • All redundant parts are removed
BTW, santa is here in 30 min... so maybe he will bring with him the missing alternator bracket  (over here we celebrate Christmas today)

I wish you all a Happy Christmas ?

Abandoning our silver tdi this coming week for final mods at Toms in lancaster for an SE steering wheel multifunction airbag from an A3 so we can use the audi phone system/concert he fitted for us last month to full effect plus standard DIS which our silver car does not have at present then thats it for that car enough spent and just maintain and enjoy. then on to the grey car in summer when funds allow for many Timmus upgrades when he can accommodate us. good luck and best wishes to you all from Liverpool and stay fit and well and maybe see you at a meeting which i have not yet done when hopefully we get back to normal.

MOT needed in Jan, flexi needed for that, so if anyone has had it done and can recommend somewhere close to Bristol way...

Rear electric windows/doors to be fitted and wired in along with full set of red door cards.

Hoping for colour DIS at some point if @timmus can fit me in sometime.

Hi @dieselfan 100kg is A LOT on a car thats already been designed with weight efficiency in mind, you start getting into diminishing returns on a lot of things once you pass the big ticket items. I did some weight reduction on my Elise for track days/sprint racing and past the big things you start wondering if you want things like a stereo or lights that come on when you open the doors (when you still use it on the road these things can still matter)

Hi @carbore
Fully agree, and it might be that I would not reach my goal. Though I will have a great time while trying to get there...;)
If one look into the more extreme versions of Lancia Delta Intergrale, there are several items to be inspired by... same with the 340R, and a lot of others... I love my A2, though one have to notice that driveshafts and rims are 40% heavier on the A2 compared to the 300hp Intergrale, luckily the cost 10% ish and you can find them everywhere....
There are a lot of interesting elements we could discuss but I guess it's best we do that in the coming project tread (or in a dedicated thread) so I don't derail this brilliant @A2Steve thread :)

Well am currently working on an engine swap on the 1.4 red colour strom which is my daily work horse and once thats all done and running sweet

2nd project is to start on the white a2 this year, and put 1.8 bam engine but that 1 is going to be major work and not for the faint hearted and I will try and document that for people too but I don't think it will be finished this year but I can try haha!!

Hi all.
My plans for the A2 and hopefully another vag project in 2021 are:-
A2 plans
Genuine Audi rear pdc fitment
Genuine Audi bluetooth module to connect to my rnse unit.
Factory tint rear door, boot windows.
And car will need a timing belt/lube service.
As my A2 doesn't have a webasto heater or the electric heater(unlucky me) possible look into retro fit either one.
Other vag plans.
??????????

The only things I want to accomplish on the A2 in 21 is a;

- De-cat (it's already banned from the cities and I'm paying extra "pollution" tax on top of the normal road tax..... €94,- a month total for the government!).
- FMIC, just for the fun of building it.... And hope it gets the temps down.

Best wishes to all, stay healthy! ?

1) Get it paid for and delivered to my house
2)Get a pre MOt check done to see what it needs
3)Get parts ordered and fitted
4)Enjoy it
5)Figure out how to fit a TT225 backbox on it
6)Lowering and alloys along with a matt grey wrap possibly

The dream is to move to Sicily and take little Annie with us - if at all possible. And a six gear gearbox... But wouldn't know where to start with that one.

The least likely item on that list is number 7 ?

Well day 1 of 2021 and what a nice start to the new year a run up to the electrical wizard of OV to collect our silver tdi which he has kindly found time over the Christmas to work on and retrofit an A3 multifunction wheel and standard DIS, along with so many other things he has done this year from BOSE ( thanks clackers ) to heated leather ( thanks nee ) to front fogs etc etc. I apologies if I seem to go on about TIMMUS but the guy really knows his stuff and attention to detail second to none, from a small part of halewood in Liverpool I wish all of you a great 2021 and good luck with your cars they really are an amazing piece of engineering.

Ooof!

That settles it, @timmus we need to plan the install of my mfsw for sure - I wasn’t 100% on “downgrading” from the current sports wheel but that looks great!
