Your A2 plans for 2021?

Ooof!

That settles it, @timmus we need to plan the install of my mfsw for sure - I wasn’t 100% on “downgrading” from the current sports wheel but that looks great!
You could get the ‘best if both’ if you went down the sport wheel with mf buttons. Lots of options, the only complication being getting one with a single stage airbag and getting it plumbed in/coded. @timmus definitely can supply and fit.

Ah but I have a standard A2 SE spec MFSW already, and with my car being a (much upgraded) SE originally, that somehow just seems “right”.

interesting to know that however. My main aim is to be able to make and receive calls from my phone without my hands leaving the wheel. Tom can advise me on the best, cost-effective way of doing that.

There's absolutely no point in your considering any kind of driver improvement course if you think it's possible to speak on a phone whilst driving. The first thing you need to do is concentrate on your driving. And, before anyone comments that it's no different from talking to passengers; the difference is that passengers would be aware of the surroundings and understand if the driver stopped talking because they were in a particularly hazardous situation.

Tom fitted the audi phone system on a previous visit so adding the wheel just brought it all together from the your mobile phone being bluetoothed and contacts harvested to the phone prep on entry and off on exit to then being able to load the audi phone prep itself with voice command which stays in the system if you forget your phone and which is brilliant when driving and not having to look at the DIS and scroll through your contacts and all done from the wheel, calls come in and it mutes the radio then end call and radio back on at the previous volume. the car is driven by my partner sharon who would never take a call whilst driving and would stop her car to speak which is not always ideal so of all the upgrades this is probably the one i value the most for her safety and saving her license, volume of radio up n down plus skipping cd tracks all from the wheel whilst eyes on the road makes this a great upgrade and saves you a big fine and points on your licence. jeff i take your point regarding talking whilst driving but that is life now and being able to speak to someone as safely as possible surely is no bad thing and one of the first things we loaded into the audi voice command system was the AA breakdown number incase the car was to break down say on the motorway at least i know one push of a button on the wheel voice command may only save you a matter of seconds it may also save you instead of looking for your phone in say a bag or your coat on the back seat whilst trucks fly past you at 60mph on the hard shoulder, fingers crossed that never happens but its nice to have the option.

My initial post was a reply to the one above but, I have to say that your comment that your partner's stopping to deal with calls wasn't ideal is simply wrong. Using the phone, hands free or otherwise is a distraction from driving. Good on Sharon!

Jeff point taken mate the only true 110% safe way of driving is no distractions whatsoever from eating at the wheel or smoking at the wheel and a red hot ember drops in your lap which if the truth be known has probably caused more accidents going back over the years. and i remember going to look at cars in my youth in the late 70s early 80s normally dagenham donkey mk3/4 cortinas from del boy dealers in Liverpool and i dont think i ever looked at one without a "ciggy" burn on the drivers seat there must have been so many accidents from people looking frantically into their laps.

Yes you’ve just summarised exactly the functionality / use cases I’m after - whilst I wouldn’t plan to take calls in the car out of habit, sometimes needs must, especially as this is a work car ferrying me to and from meetings, whenever those will re-start!

The only things I want to accomplish on the A2 in 21 is a;

- De-cat (it's already banned from the cities and I'm paying extra "pollution" tax on top of the normal road tax..... €94,- a month total for the government!).
- FMIC, just for the fun of building it.... And hope it gets the temps down.

Best wishes to all, stay healthy! ?

Part 1, De-cat is done......... The rest of the year for the intercooler.... ?

So far this year I've changed the drop links and swapped the air conditioning compressor which failed in summer. After changing it taking a total of about 3 hours and £20 for a very used looking replacement makes me kick myself for not doing it sooner.

Still to be done for 2021
  1. BOSE system install
  2. MFSW
  3. Plastic sill replacement
  4. Gearbox oil change
  5. Polish headlights
  6. Bluetooth
  7. Tidy up scratches in paint
  8. Drive 25K - 30K miles in my A2

With all this doom and gloom about what's happening in the world, how about something more cheery?

What are your A2 plans for 2021?

Mine are:

- Finish off Dune2 (few bits and bobs) to then get it sold.

- Will replace this with a TDI90 once I can find one.

- If the virus is under control, organise a couple of get together's in the summer.

Over to you!
Unfortunately, I will have to sell my beloved Elmo. My plan was to ship it to America once the stupid American 25 year rule expired in 2025, but, even though low milage, difficulty in locating parts, even here in Germany, is making that a dim dream. My local Audi dealer told me that they would not be able to support servicing my A2 much longer. Audi can't locate parts for my car. Got it passed the last inspection recently (valid for 2 years), but I'm getting more frustrated with the process. Very sad !

Interested, how will this affect its next MOT?

In my case it will not effect MOT.
In the Netherlands you can alter/remove the cat if the car is before building year 2010.
However, you must notify the register (RDW it's called over here) that you've made a change regarding catalytic converter.

Now, since my car is a grey import, the nice chaps at the RDW made an error when the original owner imported the car.
Obviously she (yes, a woman imported the car) did not notice the error made; there was noted the car had no cat installed (but it definitely had)!
At that time there was no penalty or other problem to drive the car on Dutch soil.
Currently an A2 diesel with EURO3 classification is environmentally polluting no mather if it's got the cat installed or not.

Then again: if a problem may occur; I've still got the cat and made it so that it can be installed back with a blink of an eye.

Sorry for the long text....

Ok so that now make sense appreciate the detailed response.

My plans are to get my current flip project the Dolphin grey Tdi sport mot'd and the couple of wee niggles sorted and hopefully find a new home for it once that's done I'll jump onto my other keeper, my well spec'd pine green Tdi and get it back to it's former glory but it's mostly brakes, suspension and the wheels refurbished but my plan is to keep it as close to standard as possible, the only mod will probably be a remap to improve the drive.

I may also depending on the restrictions fit one of Tom's colour DIS to flipper as he's been neglected as far as mods are lately
