Your A2 related plans for 2020?

As we go into a new year and a new decade, what are your plans for your A2 in 2020?

I'll probably go through the ownership of another few in 2020, so I can't really post my plans for any one car in particular.

How about "keep one A2 longer than 6 months" :)

Anyone have any plans for theirs?

To start and finish the half dozen jobs I’ve not done yet.

Starting with a service which is due now. Fit the TT steering wheel, replace the Webasto (ideally with parking heater function and circulation pump), sort the underbody heat shields out, fit My Votex kit (finally - the last Tiger Seal went out of date), add the second boot light, fit my reversing camera, replace the rusted screws in the number plate light, refurb the headlights, Gtechniq the glass and, finally, polish the car properly.

Busy year ahead perhaps...

No excuse for the votex :) it only takes 30 minutes to fit, but it is a 2 man job.

No real plans apart from basic maintenance ...

However, I might* ...
  • Fit BOSE to CSi90
  • Fit Yellow Leather to one or other
  • Fix reversing light on CSi90
  • Sort out gearbox on Baby Boomer
  • Add Votex to Baby Boomer? (Now there's an idea....)
  • Stop buying A2s~
  • Fit heated seats wiring for the red leather I've got
*Or more likely @timmus will if he ever comes back down to Sciroccorrado Towers
~Yeah Right!

Mechanically the only big item on the horizon (that I know of ?) is a new clutch for my Crystal one. It's starting to do with front shocks as well, but I'd probably better be ready to commit to the whole front suspension before I go there. Other than that, just keep all three roadworthy and serviced.

Since fitting the S3 Recaro front seats to the Storm I have a set of heated leather seats too many  (is there such a thing??) so it's time to cascade them down the fleet. The Cobalt one will get the black Sports seats that came out of the Storm. If I can get over removing its pretty Satellite blue interior, the Crystal one will have heated seat looms fitted ready for the Cobalt one's Twist SE seats. There will be some tinkering with both interiors to suit the seat colour changes :)

I've also been collecting doors and other bits to refresh my Cobalt one externally. This will hopefully happen while Tom is on hand to sort any failed microswitches in the locks, and the replacement NS rear one will need converting from manual to electric window. I also have a CD changer false floor waiting to go in, which needs wiring to the head-unit.

Most of my plans for the Storm are just to keep it clean and drive it ... sparingly, as it's only insured for 2000 miles per year. This should be enough for the North Wales trip and the shows. But there will hopefully be odd nips and tucks on show ... you'll just have to wait and see :D

It'll undoubtedly happen, once I'm back on tour. At the moment, though, my services are available in Lancaster. :)
Tom, give me a shout when you're planning a tour again - as above, I've got some @timmus jobs on the list. Happy to host your services for other customers again too. Hopefully I won't be away for half of it this time!

I know, time is my enemy these days though :(
Same, which is why I do tours rather than single away-from-home jobs, otherwise my time and Earth's resources are spent driving up and down the UK, wearing a groove in the M6. Whilst I am a mobile retrofitter, I'm not 'on call'.

Noted, Ian, and thank you; I was planning on asking you whether my first 2020 tour could include a stay at yours. It appears you'd welcome that, which is nice. I could visit @sciroccorrado on my way south.

Cheers,

Tom

I've invested heavily over the past few years but there is always room to improve.

Some things to enhance the car further (not necessarily all in 2020):
  • Fit the brand new headlights bought earlier this year (swapping over the bulbs from the current condensation happy units)
  • Have the newly bought front bumper resprayed and fit this
  • WOM
    • Service
    • Minor oil leak in one spark plug chamber resolved
    • Deathpipe and other consumable water pipes replaced (as appropriate)
    • Flap servicing (if practicable)
    • New clutch (likely 2021)
  • Pamper and detail (as is the norm)
  • Drive the car more - an absolute must
And one not car but club:
  • Continue to support the club and its members to the best of my ability, ensuring this excellent resource continues to flourish and enhance our collective ownership

Has anyone any thoughts on a ‘techender, style weekend . is anyone familiar with the concept ? We used to do it in the VW T2/T3 camper forums. Happy new year

Thanks Matt.

I seriously hope it doesn't come to that, you've a lovely example and are a fastidious owner. Many regret selling and often return, I'm one such member, hopefully there will be a way to retain the great car you have. The options to secure good examples in the future are going to become less and less.

Some nice sentiments there Darren :)

This might come as somewhat of a shock but I will be selling I think. ?

my 2020 is getting to know my A2 and finding issues and hopefully with the help from this Forum correct those issues. the only things if found so far are a noisy hydraulic tappet, rusted No Plate Lamps screws and no glovebox light.... Even the alarm sounder works o_O
