Today I.....

Personal preference will always play its part. Me its nine spokes summer and winter. If I was worried about unsprung weight or any of the other concerns with nine spokes I am confident Audi did a good job making sure the cars were capable of being driven safely on them.
BTW my nines are after market dual PCD RS4 replicas. They are very nearly identical in design but are considerably stronger than the standard sports. I have hit several really bad potholes and submerged debris and every time the wheels have survived with no damage, no cracks and still run true.

My nine spokes with summer tyres. Azure blue and full votex kit.

I love the 9 spokes, in my opinion the best looking of all a2 wheels, but I couldn’t live with the ride, especially with today’s sub standard roads. I may get some and use them for a couple of months a year ?

Well you are about to come to Wales and see what I drive on. Ride to me is not an issue. The only change I have made is reverting to standard suspension instead of the sport suspension.

Love the colour of your car btw, passed on in mint condition last week, looks so good in the sun ?

Our 9 spokes are wearing 205/45R17 which helps a little. These do rub (very slightly) on full lock though that's so rarely used it doesn't concern me.

The center caps were so worn when I bought the car the background was completely worn off. At the time the only replacement caps were ill fitting Chinese ones, I looked for an alternative. What I found was a set of vinyl stickers the exact diameter but with the black background on ebay. I bought them, thoroughly cleaned and dried the caps, then aligning the raised Audi rings of the cap to the rings on the stickers they were applied and rubbed down. The raised rings have embossed into the stickers and the rings on the stickers are quite realistic.

For those that do not know what dual PCD wheels are here is a picture. You can see there are 10 wheel bolt locations of which 5 are 100 and the other 5 are 112. A2 being 5x100 PCD.

Hi Cenrick,
I’ve fitted a set of 4 this weekend & they are a great improvement over the standard lamps but I do get a slight hiss from the stereo on FM but not present on my carlink system or cd etc.
Thanks for sharing link
Keith.

Today I got around to changing the thermostat. Having not resolved the low temp indication and poor fuel consumption by changing the temp sender I ordered the ‘special’ tools members have recommended for the lower bolt on the thermostat housing. Despite waiting I chose to go the ‘official’ route of removing the alternator to give better access. I have removed the alternator several times before, when I had clutch pulley problems and know what a pig the belt tensioner can be (and it was, I began doubting my decision!). Replacement of the stat was very straight forward, I had ordered a ‘Gates’ thermostat knowing they had been reliable in the past but despite this, the box said ‘made in China’, oh dear how long will it last? I remembered my trick to hold back the belt tensioner when reassembling the alternator belt but only after swearing several times. I thought I had managed to catch most of the coolant but was surprised how much I had to add after completion. I am pleased to say that the first run out in the car the temp climbed steadily to 90 on a relatively short run so with luck fuel consumption and performance will be back to normal, at least for a while.
Thanks to all who have previously posted on this subject as it helps no end to learn from others experiences and avoid the pitfalls that can catch you out. The new tools will I am sure come in useful on other occasions.
Geoff

@RobTT What size tyres are you running? Looks like you are on sport suspension. I replaced my sport suspension set up with standard suspension and the ride improved. Yes you still feel potholes and broken road surface, BUT the ride is better than my friends Bentley!!!!!!

Edit; Bonus is my mud flaps no longer scrape the ground and the front spoiler is now safe from all but the worst speed bumps!

205/40/17’s

Admittedly the ride is pretty harsh but I know the potholes and rough surfaces to avoid on my daily route lol
