Today I.....

Did you fit sound deadening mats to your doors and bottom as well? I did and it made significant difference. Also tdi here, I only still have to replace gearbox to 6- speed
Just roof done at the mo, as am re-covering the headlining. May well look at the doors if any need to strip them down.
Already running an MYP.

Today I ... saw the x÷××'ing, %##@'ing charge light come up on Cobalt II. Apparently recent alternator, starter motor, battery and earth leads (and even handbrake cubby and faux flaps) aren't enough for it. It even got polished yesterday.

It's been sent to the automotive naughty step for now. New record, four A2's, none work.

Passat tomorrow it seems. Or walk.

Thats really strange; which polish did you use?

It wasn’t the jive handbrake cubby/tray was it ?

Was the freewheel pulley replaced with the alternator? Aux belt or a tensioner gone?

You make a good point: Xymol.

Perhaps it's too rich for it? I'll remove it and see if it does the trick.

No, checked that: no cubby tray fault codes, colour match fine, velour base intact and suitably fluffy. Good idea though as I gather they can cause a range of issues.

Had a quick look before leaving for work in a car that works: fresh'ish belt, very recent alternator with new clutch, tensioner looks fine.

When I've calmed down I'll start with voltages (i.e. is it actually faulty or is it an odd issue firing the light). After that, yes belt off, check clutch, check power lead, earths and batt leads fine as it's flicking over well. Of course I have disturbed all starter related wires recently thinking about it: will deffo check around there.

One clue: batt light flashed for about 30 seconds yesterday before going solid. Just solid today, but guess that's as much function of how light is triggered as much as anything else.

No harm in checking all the connections onto the battery are tight including the aux positives block to the positive terminal and all connections inside the block.

I bought a replacement service flap from A2Steve & 2 days later a suicidal partridge changed its mind to many times & ended up smashing a 4” inch hole in the lower grille!
These cars are never happy!

I completed a whole week with no A2 - my current steed, "Bluey", is in Sheffield for his annual holiday (AKA MOT test and any jobs I couldn't get to do myself owing to weather/no garage/health/too cold) at my favoured garage.
So, basically oil/filter change, air filter, ARB bushes, droplinks and finally, crank sensor/wiring checked and replaced as required as that started throwing errors and making the car an awkward little *insert curse words here* to start sometimes. VCDS confirmed the crank sensor was giving implausible signals. Quite common on other VAG cars using the same sensor according to my mechanic, who has been in the trade over 40 years.
"Dave" is still a few weeks away.
No A2 for over a week! It's like having a limb chopped off ☹

Did some upgrade to the front suspension. Car inspection had complained on a broken spring so took the opportunity to do all related stuff.

Dropped it off at the garage for a block test and a general inspection, as I fear a possible head gasket issue. Fingers crossed
Health Check came back fine, apart from brake fluid which I expected and they are changing it as I type. And the main news is the block seems fine, compression test showed no issues so thankfully the mayo I saw looked like it was just condensation from lack of use. Fingers crossed.
