I have finally found time to dive into my A2 1.2 TDI, which refused to get into gear a while ago. Contrary to the usual suspicion, the clutch cylinder potentiometer turned out to be completely fine. With the battery freshly reconnected, the diagnostics revealed something that seems to be a problem with the clutch itself:
- With the engine off, the gears shift totally fine
- G270 = 2.8 V, stored creep point = 70%, slip point = 83%
- With gearbox in N, or in D with the brake pedal pressed, G162 = 3.3 V, actual clutch position (block 003) = 99%, current in N255 (block 005) = 0.8 A
- With gearbox in D with the brake pedal released, G162 = 2,1 V, actual clutch position = 43%, current in N255 = 0,56 A
- Between these two points, G162 changes smoothly, but the clutch lever on the gearbox moves only about 15 mm
- Even at 99% position, the clutch remains engaged: if I start the engine and try to switch from N to D, the gearbox makes a crackling sound and the engine stalls.
- All of the above has been reproduced multiple times
Is that a mechanical problem with the clutch or what?
