HI

Recently purchased an A2 1.4TDI and the alloy wheels are scuffed and paint flaking etc.. Was thinking about replacing alloys with a new set and wondered if I had to replace like for like in terms of tyres. The car currently has 175/60/R15 tyres but wondered if you could buy some alloys with say 195/50/15 Tyres as these seem to be cheaper. I really dont know what all the numbers mean apart from R15 means 15"

Thanks in advance

another question

thanks dev.

Was looking at getting a new set of alloys with tyres as it costs quite a bit ti get alloys repaired.

Was lookign at these

do you think the 195/50/15 Tyres would fit my a2 ?

Also this is probably silly question but if my current alloys have 175/60/R15 tyres on i take it i couldnt keep the alloys and add 195/50/15 tyres in the future as they would be too big for my alloys ?

cheers

Hi imology
This info from a previous thread should answer most of your questions.........

humps,

if your search/desire for comfort is “stronger“ than the overall-appearance you really should switch to 15“ wheels plus “balloony“ tyres. That would be an awesome combination with your current FSDs in terms of ultra smooth setting (for A2 relations). There are many nice 15“ rims designs out there.

Recommendable sizes would be:

6x15ET38 to ET25
6.5x15 ET35 to ET25
7x15 ET35 to ET30

and

195/55R15 tyres (195/60 would already be too large)

You will notice a very soft and pleasant ride using this combo without losing safety reserves!

Cheers Spike

run flats

I am thinking of fitting run flat tyres instead of the standard ones, using the same wheels.

Has anyone done this to get over the puncture problem/risk?

if so, can I fit a larger section tyre to improve ride?

Do NOT install run-flat tyres on wheels not specifically intended for them.

It is potentially lethal and any tyre-fitter worth their salt will refuse to sell them to you anyway..

Cheers,
