Hi

I found loads of info on tyres and wheels, in the excellent list of here, and it said that these tyres will fit 15 wheels.

Has anyone actually got them fitted and vouch for a decent ride?

I ask because there's a set of four for sale for £150 near me, a good bargain!

Thanks

I have only had 185/60/15 on pepperpots or 175/55/15 on the alternative 15 inch

Comfort of the 185/55R15 will be between the comfortable 175/65R14 tyre size and the hard riding 195/45R16.

Fitting the 185/55R15 to the standard 5.5Jx15 ET34 rim would be slightly more comfortable than fitting the 185/55R15 to the slightly wider 6Jx15 ET38 pepperpot rim.

The VW Up! fits its 185/55R15 to a 5.5J rim, whereas the Fiat 500 fits its 185/55R15 to a 6J rim. VW went for comfort and Fiat went for sportiness.

Even on a 6J rim, the 185/55R15 will be slightly more comfortable than the standard 185/50R16 fitted to its 6Jx16 ET35 rim.

As you can see in the chart below, the outside diameters of all three of these tyre sizes are within 1.5% of the standard 175/60R15 tyre size, so the gearing won't be affected much.

Outside diameter of tyres
175/65R14 583.1mm (-1.3% compared to 175/60R15)
185/55R15 584.5mm (-1.1% compared to 175/60R15)
195/45R16 581.9mm (-1.5% compared to 175/60R15)

Vredestein Quatrac 6 185/55R15 82H (Euro label C B 70dB)

ETRTO approved rim widths
175/65R14 5.0-5.0-6.0
185/55R15 5.0-6.0-6.5
195/45R16 6.0-6.5-7.5

So that the 185/55R15 is a lot more comfortable than the 185/50R16 tyre size it's probably worth fitting it to the narrower 5.5J rim. If you're after a lot of comfort on the 6Jx15 ET38 pepperpot rim, it's probably worth choosing a little more sidewall such as 185/60R15. For the standard 5.5Jx15 ET34 rims the 185/55R15 is a good choice.

Unbelievable answer as always sir 👏. Thanks so much, although I have both pepperpot and the forged 15" multi spoke std alloys, so now have a choice. I think I'll grab them anyway at that price.

I'm running the forged 15 on 175 60 15 toyo proxes, it's a very good ride but bit wobbly, especially as deiving an se stock coming from a sport on 17s... I'm desperate to get the empty pepperpots shod so I can use them so think I'll do this with the 185 55 15.

Thanks again.

I'm a bit short on time but having used the same size tyres (185/55/15) on a set of Pepperpots many years ago my advice would be not to buy them as although they will fit the 6J rims perfectly, because they have smaller depth sidewalls and a smaller rolling circumference not only will you lose the comfort gains associated with using 15" wheels which is why most people fit them (at somewhat of an aesthetic compromise over 16's or 17's) but your speedometer will also over-read more than it does already, by as much as 5mph at 70mph (you will be travelling at just 65mph when your speedo states 70).

My advice would be to never use smaller tyres than factory standard on an A2, as let's face it the one weakness is the front suspension and it's comfort factor and decreasing tyre size will only make this worse.

Go for 185/60/15's on Pepperpots or if you would rather narrower for less rolling resistance and possibly more mpg go for the standard A2 size of 175/60/15 or upsize to 175/65/15 for greater comfort and a more accurate speedometer but don't forget to check the tyre labels to know what you are buying which can make a world of difference to the feel and usability of the car in the real world 👍

Thank you, the tyres were still there but I price checked them and they're the same new as off this seller so i didnt bother. I think the advice here is good I'll go 185 60 15 I think.

I have used 185/65/15’s before Ed

A little balloon like..

I’m using 175 65 R15 on the forged lightweight wheels after stepping down from 16” wheels. They’ve improved the ride comfort and speedo accuracy still acceptable.
Next time I would probably go for 185 60 as more choice of A and B rated tyres for rolling resistance
Lastly try and avoid reinforced XL carcass as other tyre guide thread memtions
