Hi - long time lurker returning in need of advice.
Our 2003 1.4 TDI is refusing to select reverse gear normally, it can be coaxed into going in but the process feels strained.
It drives fine in every other respect, but it had a gearbox replaced by Audi in 2007 via a misdiagnosis, and the shift on the new 'box was never as slick as the one it replaced.
My thoughts are that it is a selector linkage problem - that would tie in with the stiffer shift in the new box, and I've seen a few notes on the 'net about a problem linked to the reversing light switch on the shift mechanism.
It's only done 66,000 miles since new so I really doubt it is worn out - has any of our enlightened souls got a steer on what it might be?
It's serviced regulalry and driven gently.
Answers if any of you have them would be really welcome
Cheers
Oof
