36mm socket to change oil

Wow ! What a huge socket for a simple oil filter change - I guess it's the same as BMW, Vauxhall, MINI oil change then.

Looks like I'll have to buy one - £10 o so seems a but much for a 30,000 mile interval though!

Although it seems a shame, don't try to double up with the socket needed for the drive shaft nuts, which is also 36mm, but is bi-hex (12 point). If you try a bi-hex socket on the oil filter nut, you're likely to just round the corners off.

Cheers,

Mike

Nice one guys, thanks

By the way the 1.2 TDI has 19mm allen key style hub nuts !

Anyone tried the suction method of removing old oil via dip stick rather than traditional sump plug removal?

Its not recommended as you end up with about 1/2 litre of old oil left in the sump which contains all the left over sludge and wear metal particles etc. This then contaminates the fresh oil before the engine has even run.
