I can't find the link to the actual TUV website, maybe a German speaker can... but from http://www.wheels24.co.za/Wheels24/News/0,,1369-1372_1881581,00.html

the A2 came FOURTH out of all cars!!!

Three Japanese car makers head a list of the most reliable cars compiled by Germany's technical testing authority (TUeV).

After analysing statistics from 7.6 million roadworthiness tests that are compulsory in Germany for all used cars every two years, the Japanese cars scored best.

In the category of two to three-year-old cars, the Subaru Forester was most reliable, followed by the Mazda Demio and the Toyota Yaris.

At the bottom of the same list with most safety relevant mechanical faults were the Chrysler Voyager, Ford Galaxy, Opel Frontera, Seat Alhambra, VW Sharan, Fiat Marea and Renault Laguna.

In the list of four to five-year-old cars, the Mercedes SL topped the list just ahead of the Porsche Boxter, Mazda MX5 and Audi A2.

At the bottom of this list were the Seat Alhambra, Alfa 145/146, Fiat Palio Weekend and Chrysler Voyager.

Summing up the results, the TUeV said that on the whole cars had become safer during the past few years with such electronic systems as ABS (anti-lock brake system) and ESP (electronic stability programme) becoming standard in many cars.

However, every fifth car tested had faults such as defective brakes or axles.
